how many cc's was your 1st motorcycle

I was 10 years old so it was 100cc, then 250, then 600 then the Busa! Pretty good progression in my book.

Hodaka Wombat 125cc Dirtbike.
Nice! My first dirt bike (aside from the mini bike) was a used Hodaka Ace 100, with all the stuff removed.

First street bike was a 2001 Ducati Monster 750. About 57 hp, and that was more than I could handle.

No doubt in my mind, the dirt's the place to learn to ride and handle a motorcycle.

Dear Friends

My first motorcycle was a '79 Yamaha YZ80. My first streetbike was an '88 Ninja 600.

Next I bought a '94 Honda CR250 and then a '93 Nighthawk 750.

I think a rider who's first bike is an '08 Busa should definitely take advantage of the new drive modes. He or she should ride in Mode C for the first five or six hundred miles.

I started out on an 89 EX500.  That bike went down on 3 seperate occasions, once being my own stupidity riding it in the grass.
Dear Scott

I dropped my Ninja 600 in the grass while going less than 5 mph. That little tumble broke my collarbone and did US$1800 worth of damage to the Ninja.

I was colossally pissed!

A Honda S90, that's right, a Super 90cc roadbike.  Had it in the late 60s. Would do about 72 mph laying down with the wind behind me.

Traded it for a 49 Chevy coupe.  Wish I still had that coupe!

94 Ninja Ex500 for 2 yrs then moved to 06 Busa. First time on the busa, almost felt like I never had a bike before.

Here is how many cc's i had to atart with to the present:
72 honda cb350, 96 yamaha fzr 600, 01 Aprilia rsv 1000, 01 blue/white/blk gsxr1000, currently 02 red/blk/silver gsxr 1000, and a blue/blk 08 hayabusa. Glad I started out this way.....

No injury besides ego, don't remember the cost but it was a new upper and left mirror and signal. I had the bike for 1 week, who knew the front brake was so sensitive on grass

Guess at 18 you don't really know all that much. I always stopped fine on my friends little Mini.

My first bike was a Yamaha 250cc something. I bought it for 50 bucks, no title. Rode it all over the place on side roads and used it as a dirt bike. Had not seat, made one out of foam and duct tape. Sold it for $100 dollars and bought a yamaha dirt bike, had it for a day and sold it for triple what I paid and bought a 84 Kawasaki GPZ 750 and rode the heck out of it till it blew a cylinder 1000 miles from home, sold the bike for parts for more than I paid for the bike running and bought a Yamaha 650xs and a 1100 Yamaha 1100 xs set up for drag racing. Sold both of those for more than I paid for them and bought a 88' 1000 Honda Hurricane(which I still own and have owned since '96). Had it bored out, custom valves, Intake ported and polished, larger jetted carbs, timing advancer and piped. Quicker and more hp than my Busa. Bought a 600 honda Hurricane in there somewhere too. Just sold my 96' 600 fzr that I bought for a friend and he never gave my the cash for it.

750 nighthawk, one of the best bikes I ever rode. Great for beginners and they are real cheap to buy.

I am sure glad I started out smaller. Stupid doesn't hurt as much, or cost as much either

1st- 1998 Suzuki GS500E (great starter bike IMO!)
2nd- 2001 Suzuki DR650 Dual Sport
3rd- 2001 Honda VFR800FI Interceptor (One of the greats!)
4th- 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa (Not a good starter bike!)

My first real bike was a 1969 Z50 in 1971.

I had a couple of Rupp mini-bikes before that.

Tell your friend if he wants to stick around and continue to be your friend.

he should start off on a lot smaller bike.

You V-twin suggestion is absolutly correct.

I would even be hesitant of a modern in-line 600 to start.

There are just to many aspects of riding that only time and experience can instill in you.

I had been riding 30 years between dirt and street before I got my 1st Busa and I had been on big bores since 1984.

Show him this thread and hopefully he smartens up some.takes the MSF course, buys all the proper gear, and a "Training" M/C.

Well, my first bike was a 2001 Honda CBR600F4i. Topped it out at 161 mph. Sold it to a friend and he changed the rear sprocket, and topped it out at 163 mph. jerk!

I must say though, that was one uncomfortable bike! Rode it 180 miles in one day, hurt my backside so bad i thought my it was going to be the death of me!
