I have questions, maybe you have answers. George Floyd & Karma

I watched a bit of the memorial for Mr Floyd, you'd have thought he won the Nobel Peace Prize for curing cancer the way the people were acting...

I've seen much less flamboyant memorials for soldiers fallen in battle than this one...

Incredible is the word to be used.

He has achieved some sort of folk hero status.
Violent criminal (proven) turned bible thumper (proven) back to criminal (proven) and now memorials fit for royalty.
T-shirts,coffee mugs,posters,etc...all to honor "the man" george floyd.:super:
Some "man".
Man was put on this earth to protect those less stronger than himself. Women, children the sick and elderly.
I'm not sure a hero's funeral works here.
But....could just be me.

The man did die thou. Its the one fact we can all agree on.floyd died defending his right to drive under the influence of meth and fentenal to any store he wanted to and to use whatever currency he wanted to... purchase a pack of smokes.
Have there been any arrangements made so far for those who have lost their lives defending floyds rights? I wonder how many of the networks will have HUGE coverage of those events.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go on Ebay and order me up one of them floyd t-shirts...gonna take it to the next floyd rally....

and burn it.

Rubb.

Explain or rationalize this behavior, real tough guys smh….

Here's how I explain it, that "older" person should have learned by now you don't EVER go poking at a police officer in uniform who is carrying a gun and other police equipment on his or her body. The old bat was a dumass and he DID want to cause trouble. He got it. No wrong doing by the police there that I can see. What are you supposed to do, let anyone who wants draw your own gun on you? Shee-it. I see so much stupidity happening in these protests. So now we have less cops on the street and the internal investigation will determine the cops did what they're supposed to do when someone reaches a hand at you. Does anyone here think you're allowed to get within three feet of a cop let alone go grabbing on him?

Not only did the US have slave but so did other countries including Canada.
North Africa purchased millions of kidnapped white European slaves. Millions of them. Look up the Barbary Slave Trade. Nobody talks much about that----and why should they? It ended 200 years ago.

I knew that white, Jewish and others were slaves in the past. I guess we only talk about the US where less than 3% owned slaves. They were mostly the rich plantation owners in the south.

He got what he deserved? Don't you want to wait and find out what happened before the tape starts? Aren't you the same person who wanted to withhold judgement on Chauvin until all the evidence was collected? That's no longer important?
In what jurisdiction is nobody is allowed to get within 3 feet of a police officer? WTactualF are you talking about? Show me where that's a law....
And other countries transgressions don't excuse those of this one. Never have. "But he did it too...." is a child's defense.
From one teacher to another, you're a disgrace to the profession.

In all fairness, it makes some difference that the descendants of slaves are living here now. Descendants of Barbary slaves are mostly living in N Africa now I asume. Chances are slim any of them or their descendants ever pitched a fit about slavery. They would have been executed in that orthodox Muslim society and maybe the same would happen today.

OK but you brought it up and said no one talks about it.

Good point, I wouldn't mind knowing the whole story but if a person poked at the belt of a police officer, that's cause to push them away. Other than a possible escape attempt, I have not seen what Floyd might have done before he was taken down and restrained.

When a police officer visited my classroom as a student, a kid grabbed at his belt for a joke. We all got a stern lecture right there on the spot. DO NOT get close to a police officer. It's common sense. We're talking about poking at a cop's belt, FCOL! Unless this individual was mentally incompetent, I can't see why they would do that and even if they were mentally incompetent, a cop still better get that person away from them FAST. I don't think there is a law, I just googled it and 3-5 feet is recommended for anyone who actually needs to be told that. You don't walk up on ANY starnger and poke at them, that's harassment at the least.

You don't actually want to argue that walking up on a cop and poking at them is an OK thing to do, do you?

I pointed out that slavery was practised everywhere and all colors have been enslaved, not just Africans and not just here in North America. I also acknowledged that descendants of slaves still living within that culture 200 years later is different than merely being aware of slavery in other parts of the world.

If you feel I am a disgrace Mr Brown, so be it. This is not a classroom and I am not a teacher all day. If you think your opinions are better than mine the way to persuade me (as you had previously) is explain why you are correct; not tell me I am a disgrace. I don't hold you to being a teacher outside of school either. If I did, you would have just failed at the essential task of being a teacher.

Typical justification claptrap. You think opinions are able to b proven? You think I believe my opinions are better than yours or anyone else's? Your comprehension skills are poor.
Teaching isn't about indoctrination, it's about explanation. At least, it is when I do it.
Have a great day.

Just back from a ride and ice cream...no thoughts of anything other than riding the bike and attacking a cone full of ice cream (which I did with great vigor).

Approaching a police officer aggressively is a no-no and touching one is even more so of a no-no.

This older gentleman was out and about in a dangerous environment and unless he has Alzheimer's he should have stayed home. Cops have been killed by older people so this man was not immune to being man-handled such as he was....

I see it like this (maybe I'm nuts..) if you as a person are going into a dangerous and unstable environment and don't prepare or expect any thing to happen, you are a fool. Unless that older man was asking for directions or looking for help, he had no business approaching the police officers...

….and to show how far right it is becoming, every little, tiny thing which involves police will be under an electromagnetic microscope...I'll guarantee you any police officer even remotely close to retirement will be jumping ship...and many others will be looking for other employment.

I watched a cop show this morning and a police officer pulled over a car, the driver automatically got offensive and told the cop he was harassing him because he was a black man, the cop said "no, I pulled you over because you almost hit that family crossing the street." And the cop also said, "you might notice I'm black too so knock off the harassment stuff."

The guy said "white, black, it don't matter if you're a cop, you are all out to get us."

The driver of the car it turned out, had a criminal suspension of his license, no insurance, no registration and dope....but he was still insisting the cop was harassing him.

So as I understand the general consensus here, the armed protestors in Michigan were good to go exercising their Constitutional rights, and everyone else got what they deserved for being a criminal, or exercising theirs?

I don’t know about all this ‘police brutality’.For me at least it wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility to think that at least some of these videos may be fake.
I mean....if you’re a cop in the US right now surely you know the sight is on you and some of these acts are ridiculous. If the man with no face wants to farward an agenda then ‘fake videos’ to a world that are slaves to their mobile devices wouldn’t be a bad tactic.
The opinion of the masses matters to the man at the top of the tree.Controlling it doesn’t seem to be that difficult at least controlling the majority.

I would never approach an officer during an event like that, I would not touch him if I did for sure. With that said The old guy should’ve realized the officers were flowing with adrenaline I’m sure as they marched through, but it was approx 50 cops right there to one elderly frail guy. While as a cop anything approaching in a situation like that could be perceived as a threat and the minute you dismiss it you could be in trouble I get that. The elderly guy was holding a phone in his hand when he reached and we don’t know if he or what he was saying as he approached the police. Maybe this elderly guy had dementia or was disoriented in some sort of way? There wasn’t an intense crowd of folks to control there were more cops than people from what can be seen. Didn’t appear to be any questionable activity occurring.

With all that said, a quick assessment from the cops perspective could’ve been a natural reflex. But it’s after the push that things really disturb me, he falls no help, one officer want to but gets checked and put back in formation by another. I don’t think the level of force was warranted. We have cops that get adrenaline rushes and seek these moments, like literally wanting some action and we also have the opposite those who are cowards and overreact to a given stimuli.

I’m not anti-cop but I am anti-bad cop.

Pushing the old guy down was a punk move and out of frustration of having to even be there. Let’s not forget the reason behind the protest matters too.

I can agree that approaching an officer at that moment wasn’t the best idea. The officer had to select from a decision tree of how to assess and react. To say this old man deserved it I disagree. I can go pull up hundreds of videos of people doing worse to the police w/o this type of reaction. Let’s just say they seem to be quite selective when these events occur.

How many got hurt in Michigan?
Is that the point? That because nobody got hurt it was ok? Because by that logic the old man never should have been touched, he certainly didn't hurt anyone.

I asked the question simply because it seems to me that most of the responses lean in that direction. Rationalizing, excusing, and justifying behavior simply because one agrees with it. That my brothers is exactly NOT the point of this country. We have to allow for things we disagree with, in order for the things we do agree with to be allowed by those who don't. It's how the Constitution balances majority rule with the rights of the minority. I realize this board skews heavily white, male, and politically right, but what I've seen since this began has opened up a window into the souls of some of you, and there are some bitter and angry folks here. I truly hope each of you find some happiness and peace.

I just view some of these items as common sense. You stand on someone neck for 9 min they will prob die. You walk up and try to tell police in riot gear where to go you’ll be shown who’s in charge.
You are a smart man and I try to understand your point of view. But I always try. I don’t think people are angry here we are just reading words on a computer. But you seem to be the one that I read as being angry.
Everyone here if your angry go take it out on your ride the busa loves the abuse.

I am employed in the justice system in europe. Here we have something called force continuum. And in an arrest situation you should never ever use more force than necessery. Using the knee in the neck like this is illegal and the detainee should never be kept on the stomach after you are in control..
As i have been informed there are 4 officers involved in this situation so why the hell did they not put him up in a sitting position after they cuffed him.

Im "colorblind" and a persons color, culture or religion does not matter to me, we are all equal and no human deserves to die like this.
