I'm quitting

Good luck Bro, I quit in Feburary. My dad is in the hospital now because of emphesema, he has smoked 2 packs a day for 50+ years. Quit while you can folks, it will kill you.

good luck man i know you can do it, my best friend and my girl friend both quit several years ago and havn't looked back. infact amy still says its nice to be able to smell and taste things

I takes 30 days to form a habbit.....so if you can go 30 days on this new habbit....it will be your new habbit!!!   Good Luck!!
This is good advice.  I had my last smoke Dec 28th and haven't had one single puff since.  At first it was hard, especially when having beers with someone who does smoke, but after a month it gets MUCH easier.

Oh ... and it's hard to describe how much better I feel now that I quit.  Whenever I'm around someone who smokes now I can't believe how bad I can smell it on them - I guess I used to smell like that too.

Good luck

But Sam...without your money, how can Big Tobacco continue to make donations to our next president's campaign?

Good luck. There is no down-side to quitting cigarettes/tobacco in general.

Once you set your mind to it, and I mean SERIOUSLY set your mind to it, you can do it.
I've quit twice..for about 2 years each time. Stupid to go back, I know.

You are going to need new things to do at the times that you would normally smoke. In the car, I had to sit on my smoking hand, so I wouldn't want to light one. Instead of going out to smoke at work, I would go out and walk around the building a few times, or go into our gym and get on the treadmill for a few minutes. So try to find new habits.

Good luck.. it isn't easy, but it's doable!

Not a heavy smoker by any means, except well about a week ago.

 But normally just a pack/day.
I used to ask my dad "How many ciggs in a pack? And how many hours in a day are you awake?

" He finally quit too. Said it was one of the hardest and the best things he ever did for himself.

Good luck to you Sam. We are all pullin' for ya!!!

BTW- Why don't cigg manufacturers have to list ingrediants on their packs like ALL other makers of goods that we put in our bodies??? I've always believed their are other things in there that help cause addiction.Chemicals/drugs in the filters and god knows what else in the tobacco itself. But then again, I wear a tinfoil hat sometimes when my cat tells me too.

My Dad has been smoking for over 30 years. He scoffed at the "It will kill you" statements until this winter. He had to have a stint put in his heart to keep him from having a heart attack. He has lost part of the circuilation to nearly half his heart, even after the stint. His Cardiologist said the type of obsrtuction he has is a direct result of the smoking. He also has Hogkins Lymphoma.

It you don't think it will kill you, think again.

Good luck to you Sam, this is doable, it's a real mutha at first and can be quite a physcological struggle in the months ahead especially if you are gifted with an addictive personality.  For me personally after 37 years of smoking I found smoking to be so ingrained into my thought process that it's still difficult to just ignore the programing at times.  Although I was never a heavy smoker I feel as though I used smoking as a coping tool and a reward system so at 10 months smoke free I'm still learning how to cope with life's stress & struggles without instinctively reaching for a smoke, once again good luck man, you can do this.

10 months smoke free = $1,200 savings plus now maybe I won't end up being that little 70 year old guy carying around an oxygen tank and gasping for his next breath.

Good luck with it! Its hard at first but it gets eaiser! I quit 4 years ago back when it started to get expesive. I smoked for 17 years before that!

Thanks fellas. My biggest problem I see for me is that I smoke out of boredom. Working on the RR is extrememly boring at times so instead of eating, I smoke. I've got some incentive though. The wifey told me that if I go smoke free for 1 year, I can start looking for a stablemate for the Busa. Once I start looking to buy it usually takes me about a year to actually pull the trigger. So figure 2 years from now, I'll be a proud owner of 2 bikes.

We have a "Quit smoking" program offered at work.

Obviously I know nothing about it but they fund the cost I believe.
