Kickstand Mod Complete

OK, as I held the dremmel and explained to my son the importance of taking your time, and the fact that it is easier to take metal away then it is to put back, I ended up with this. I took a little more off the stand then originally planned.

The first time I put the bike on the stand is the first time I actual felt the bike might fall.

Did I take too much off or do I just need to get use to the new aggressive angle of the bike sitting?

Thanks.

David,
Looks good, word of caution even this mod won't prevent a tip over.  I had set my bike down off the rear wheel stand to the side stand and evidently let the bike roll ever so slightly forward.  10 min. later while I was putting my gear on to go riding the damn thing just fell over!  Snapped off the left mirror and put a ding in my tank.  I don't trust these kick stands at all.

I know what you mean and sorry to hear about your ride. I also hear horror stories about aftermarket adjustables as well (screws falling out). Of course, loctite would prevent this but what if your always changing your ride heigt from track to street? Thought about a center stand but don't care for the looks.

I know it mostly comes down to owner caution... taking your time... doing the right things... but even then... like in your case... she may tumble.

IMO this mod is a preventive application, not a cure all.

All the more reason why I bought this one. It has a pin (not a screw) which is held in on one end by a nail-like head and on the other by a keychain-type ring. Best parts are its thicker and more heavy-duty like than the stands that utilize a screw (perfect for a 500+ lbs bike), there are no tools needed when changing the height, and it flat out looks better!

Sweet. Where can I get one like that? After all, it IS father's day. Oh, wait... was father's day the full exhaust, or the smoked mirrors, or the gauges, or the hugger, or the...

As my sig reads... it's a slippery slope.

Thanks for all the input. Guess I can stop going into the garage every 5 minutes to check on her. lol

Looks OK.

I make a point of always pushing forwards on the kickstand with my foot to make sure it's fully extended before I place the bike's weight on it.

I think mine leans even more. I have a adjustable stand and leaned it more because of the high winds we get around here.

Looks fine.

When I'm getting off my bike, I keep my foot on top of the kickstand end. Then when I'm off him, I give him a good shove backward before I remove my foot... just to make sure he isn't going anywhere.

scary things... i spent $7k+ on a nice bike, I can afford to dump $100 on an aftermarket stand...

regardless of what you use though I say **** can happen. just try to be as careful as possible when setting the baby down!

I just added +1" raising dogbones and now my bike seems to have the perfect lean going. I was gonna do the dremel mod and now I'm glad I didnt after I did the dogbones.

I am looking for a raising dogbone kit. Can you tell me where you purchased yours?
