MotoGP 2018

Test rider Pirro for ducati had a rather sickening looking crash at over 340kph down the mugello straight, a concussion and dislocated shoulder and a general beat up.

A few other crashes and Dovi had a blow up.

So Dovi hit 356kph today in practice, that's 221.08mph! Thats an all time record for grand prix. Anybody know approximately how much power does it take to get a Hayabusa to 220+?

Damn, did his brake lock up at that speed?
They are saying the bike got into headshake going over the bump at the end of the straight. Result is the brake pads shake and create a gap, then the rider overcompensates because his first try at the lever is week sauce. Brembo has a "component" to counter it apparently. Same thing hit Lorenzo at Losail earlier in the year I think. Scary looking wreck man. I haven't seen anything that vicious since Simoncellis accident.

I’ve had head shake and the rear side to side wobble (not at the same time thankfully) around 120 or so but neither caused the rear to swing around and rise up like that. His 2nd pull musta been hard. I’ve even heard of worn pads rattling back and forth on their own making the braking pretty ineffective until they’re pumped a few times. At that speed there’s just not any time. I had a banjo bolt loosen up once on the front rotors of my Honda heading into a fast right hander. One pull and nothing, pressed the rear as much as I dared and as quick as I could but w/o almost any reduction in speed, had to try the corner. Luckily there wasn’t any oncoming traffic cause I needed more than the 12’ in my lane. When he got bucked off, that vertical pirouette he did was sick!

Just finished watching Qualifying.
Watching Pedrosa at speed was just scary. His head was just whipping back and forth on the straight, he will have a headache after that! Well done for Rossi, that session was awesome! Another Marquez miracle save right at the end. Lorenzo seemed to be the most cosistently fast throughout that session, the new fuel tank shape seems to have helped him.

Go Rossi! I saw Dovi’s front fender wobbling too. Even the leather around the hump was rippling on everyone’s jacket down the straight. I’ve had textile jackets catch the wind like that but never my leathers. Maybe I’m not going fast enough. All the front runners are way too close to make any predictions except one, anyone wanna bet that Lorenzo gets the hole shot on everyone else?:D

:race:The question is how long can he hold onto it once he gets there? He goes very well in Mugello, just a matter of whether he can manage the lead for any length of time. I was looking at the trap speeds and Dovi was 12 KPH up on Lorenzo when he wasn't running the "wings" and Lorenzo was. All that downforce comes at a cost! Not certain, but I think Petrucci was the only Ducati I saw qualify without the winged fairing.

One thing is certain, the draft will be a huge factor tomorrow! The Moto3 race will surely have about a thousand passes! :shocked:Get your popcorn ready!

Well , that was something for sure .. Lorenzo the winner !! Absolutely dominated , untouchable really , from start to finish !! Well deserved and much needed , Dovi 2nd and Rossi 3rd . MM came unstuck relatively early in the race , don't even know where he ended up finishing , but sure was a long way from any race points . Miller dropped out quickly , went from 11th to the very back of the field , then out altogether , maybe bike troubles ...

Marquez first lap should have earned him a ride through IMO.

Did you see the graphic at the end if the race with Lorenzo's lap times?:shocked:Every frigging lap was a 1:48.xx like clockwork. The Lorenzo of old in full effect. Not sure what the future holds for him but MotoGP needs him and others like him to keep Marquez honest.

I found myself rooting for Rossi on the last lap to catch Dovi. Came up just short at the line.

Im happy for George to win and convincingly to boot , Motogp need him on a non Duke bike so he can mix it up every race - Yamaha return looks likely.
Heck of a weekend for all the classes with the hot temps causing lots of slides and wobbles , great for us to watch !
