MotoGp 2022

maybe they're expecting some tank slappery (?) handlebar stops ?
Didnt see it on Jacks bike or the Pramac bikes on the 'first look' video on the official official GP site today.
Not near the bars, and they would just limit bar travel.
A tank slapper is full bar turn to each side quickly and violently, no matter how much travel or where they stop.
Those are for grip and support under hard braking and engine braking to maintain body position and control.
(The parts by the rear of the tank, not the black boxes).
Those boxes connection don't go to the front towards the dampner either.
They could be recording data from the gyros for tc and abs too?

Hmm wondering if they were data recorders as the pics were from the 'shakedown' practice a few days before the official practice.

A few observations from the Sepang test so far.

Suzuki – Clearly Suzuki and Yamaha have done the least iteration in the Aero department compared to the others since last year. From what I can glean from the photos Mir is the only one of the Suzuki riders running the knee supports. As far as I can tell Suzuki is the only factory still running an Aluminum Swingarm! Also noticed that Suzuki, Yamaha and KTM are the only one running the “shovel” spoiler in front of the rear tire (at least at this test) might be meaningless. Reading that they have been working a lot on the “Shapeshifter” devices for the suspension to keep pace with the others. Riders seem to like what they have received power wise with the new engine too. Will it be enough to keep Mir?

Honda – From what I can tell Honda is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Suzuki and Yamaha in the Aero department. The Honda Aero package (mainly the front but the rear as well) appears to be all new. Marquez seems to think it is plenty fast enough, so that might be something to keep an eye on. Honda was not losing much on the straights to the Ducati’s at least until Marquez went out last year.

Yamaha – Fabio seems to be the only one of the Yamaha guys making much noise, he was clearly expecting more power from the new mill and reading between the lines he didn’t get all that he was hoping for. He also tried some form of Knee supports on the tank to arrest forward motion ala Mir’s Suzuki, although the pics I saw were much smaller than the ones on Mir’s Suzuki. They do have a slightly different front wing now.

KTM – They are trying a whole bunch of different stuff as usual. The one thing that caught my attention was the air intake. If you look at the Photo Gallery linked below they have one version with just a single central intake, but there is another shown with a central one and then another concentric one around it? Not sure what that’s about honestly. They also have a lot of young blood in the pipeline too, so they should be doing well going forward.

Aprilia – They are the only remaining factory still receiving an exemption to the current rules package, and they have clearly been maximizing that as Espargaro and Vinales have been the fastest at the test; if that means anything for the season is yet to be seen. Their Aero package is clearly the most flowing of all of the teams now, which is somehow now growing on me. The bike makes good power and because of the exemption they can wring the engines neck just a bit more than the others( for now anyway).

Ducati – If MotoGP has ever truly had a “Juggernaut”, it is the 2022 Ducati effort! They are fielding no less than 8 (are you listening Suzuki?) riders, most of them on Current spec GP22’s. Luigi “Gigi” Dall'igna is a certifiable genius and the perpetual evolution of every aspect of the bike has the paddock in fear of a runaway! They are playing with “Shapeshifters” at both ends of the bike now, they have been experimenting with a few different exhaust configurations in search of more torque, and the Aero package is far and away the most comprehensive in the paddock, thanks in no small part to the Audi affiliation.

Less than a month to Race one!

Honda likes small guys on their bikes except maybe Cal! The Honda is an inhospitable bike. Nasty manners that few can manage except MM, and even he crashes a lot. Be interesting to see if anyone else can ride it to success this year. Also, MM is running out of lives, he's got to be able to win on that thing without a major crash every other GP weekend.

I just wonder if the rest of the field has gotten so fast that even the most talented rider ever can get the HRC over the line first consistently.
