MotoGP 2023

Well the first domino has fallen in the Marc Marquez drama. Official announcement today that he and Honda are parting ways. The Gresini announcement hasn't been made yet, but it seems a formality now after much speculation lately!

Would like to see them Promote Rins to replace him but who knows?

Oops Forgot that Rins already signed with Yamaha for next year.

Now hearing that Oliveira might be on Hondas list of potential victims...

Iker Lecuona could be brought back from WSBK ?
I hope not, but he is a Honda contracted rider, so it would be logical. Sounds like Honda is beating the bush for anyone that will dare to ride the thing. I think Vinales is off the table, as is Oliviera since both of them seem to like the Aprilia a lot and no one seems willing to deal with the headache of HRC corporate and the culture there.

Not much has been written about Rins also leaving Honda at the end of the year. Between him and Marquez they are the only ones capable of even making the Honda competitive. Im also hearing that Augusto Fernandez is probably out at Gas Gas (KTM) to make room for Pedro Acosta to move to MotoGP. He might be a good fit on the LCR as his results have been consistently improving this year.

Well this will be interesting:

1. Marquez had the Honda built specifically for him. Part of his dominance was in part that Pedrosa was a very small rider too. So development was very small rider focused. Ducati won't want to build it for Marc. So did Ducati commit to building Marc whatever he needs or did they say here you can ride this?
2. Marquez is why the Honda sucks. He is so talented that he tends to cloak flaws in the bike other riders can't manage. Very much like Stoner could win on an unrideable Ducati.
3. Honda and Marc needed to be separated. Their interests just are too different. Marc needs a championship now, Honda needs to develop a bike many riders can ride.
4. Marc will be disruptive in the Ducati paddock. When Pecco wins, is Marc going to claim he had stuff Ducati won't send the satellite team? Will he be looking at moving up to a factory spot as soon as 2025? Marc is a notoriously bad teammate and the Ducati garage is at least civilized.
5. How long will it take Marc to learn to max out the Duck? As Pecco has pointed out it is not an easy bike to figure out even when you are winning. Will Marc spend several seasons working back up to form on the Ducati? Obviously, Marc can ride anything but like Stoner, he is not a disciplined/patient pilot. Will that get the most out of the Duck?

Personally, I don't see what Ducati has to gain in this deal other than some really wacky data from a pilot who is way more skilled than most. Ducati will probably win this year and next year too. So Marc is sort of competing against Ducati, on a Ducati. Maybe they just wanted to stop Marc's unguided missile impersonation every weekend? Or maybe they think this will disrupt Honda's efforts to climb back into the battle.

So Marc tears up his Honda Contract to get out of the Purgatory he was in. Now KTM have done a 180 and torn up Pol Espargaros contract to make way for Acosta to partner Fernandez! Pretty sure that puts Pol back on Hondas radar. Silly season is on!

…”Maybe they just wanted to stop Marc's unguided missile impersonation every weekend?”

If MM gets a Ducati he will continue his unguided missile impersonation on it. He will crash it as soon as he rides it (finding it’s limits) he’ll say. Has he ever not crashed whatever bike he’s ridden?

This is getting good now. Lucio Cecchinello telling HRC Hands off Zarco for Marquez' vacant seat. And KTM has already come calling. Could Honda lose LCR as well?

P.S. youll have to use translate on this site!

I watched a show called "MotoGP, there can only be one" and it was quite interesting...

It is a behind the scenes program and shows how hard they work trying to get the bikes to be competitive....even the Ducati team was struggling to get their bikes to where they wanted them to be...

And the Honda team was working hard trying to get the bike on the podium but it had to be ridden to it's ragged edge to do so...

Concessions for Yamaha? The state of MotoGP is just crazy now. All those titles for Ago, Roberts, Lawson, Rainey, Rossi etc. and they are now struggling for relevance! With Marc breaking his contract, Fabio must surely be pondering doing the same! And to think, just 3 short years ago Suzuki was at the pointy end of the Championship! They are history now and Honda and Yamaha seem destined for the same fate at this rate...

It was made into an interesting race when Jorge Martin crashed out while in first position he was miles ahead...

Pecco did do a great job tho getting through the pack and just hanging onto the lead from Mav and Fabio.

I just read that Zarcos rear ride height device never disengaged so the bike was squated making cornering a nightmare,
no wonder he slid out.

Moto3 was the most entertaining race for me.

Did I miss it or did (no one) crash in the GP today? Not even MM and (that) is really a shock. The finish was remarkable. After starting on pole and leading the entire race and at times, having nearly a four second lead, poor Martin (pronounced Marteen) gave up the lead on the last lap finishing 5th. The relative newcomer Fabio, I’ll call him Fabio D cause his last name has an apostrophe and seven freakin syllables, finished third behind Pecco who made a hard charge from mid field after a poor starting position. Another couple laps and Pecco may have won. Fabio Q hardly finished coming in at 14th but ahead of MM who, after a pretty good charge up front early on ended up riding backwards towards the end of the race for a 15th position finish.

There were only four bikes running behind him with two dropouts. Rossi’s standout, Bezzecchi only got to 6th but is still 3rd in points overall. At age 33 after many many GP starts, Zarco finally made it to the finish in 1st place, all taking place on the last lap! Feel bad for Martin. Imagine leading a GP race in every lap and being pushed back to 5th on the final lap!

Just watched the Thailand GP where Martin won....by a slim margin....

Those bikes certainly gather in speed quickly.....and I like it when they put the speed screen up so we can see the top speed down the straights...I saw 334kms/hr a few times...

Impressed with Binder on the KTM.

Always wonder why KTM, is in MotoGP. Most sales in the dirt bike market, and nothing to compete with street Superbikes in the 1k class.
This is an interesting observation......they are competitive in MotoGP without a street bike version....

And they aren't in SBK because of this...
