My Busa Overhaul

 NOT COOL! She'll be on the road again soon enough. Still not a great time to ride here anyways. 50 knot winds suck for riding.

Gotta love new parts....especially performance parts......

Looking really nice and shiny !

I bet buying all these parts is making you itchy for some busa riding huh ?

Just thought I'd let you know that I took mine out through the long sweepers today and .......arhhhh it feels good !!:laugh::laugh:

Just mount a sail on her and you'll be on the road again! Not only that, you'll have invented a new sport -> "BUSA SAILING"

Sadly, I can't do that either. Still gotta go pick up the swingarm, mount a new sprocket, install the tire, etc. She is a one wheeled wonder hanging from my shop ceiling at the moment. :banghead: BUT, I am going to pick it up ASAP (haven't had a chance, sick kid at home)

BTW John, it takes money to get these things going. I'm just a poor broke SSGT. My rich Uncle Sam would rather spend his money getting guns out of people's hands than give it to us. At least this won't be a 4 yr project. Just a winter one

Now you're talking.... we all want to see your spirits lifted and keep the motivation positive!!

The ride I had through the long sweepers was to let you know what you are missing and to help you keep motivated...........

I don't think the "sailing option" is going to cut it !!:banghead:

Looks like youve got some big plans in store for the girl, I'm envious; I wish I could do this kinda project, but I'm so hamfisted when it comes to mechanical work that I'd tear her down, then end up selling it as a basketcase two years later when I couldn't figure out how to put it back again! Keep us up to date on how it goes, I'm sure we'd all love to see the progress! :)

Oh I will. She'll go back together soon and then it'll be Dyno time. I will post the sheet on here too!

Any updates on the engine at all ?

Is it getting built at the same time that you are doing the rest of the busa ?

Will you be building most of the engine yourself ?

I like the fact that you will post the dyno printout .... now you're talking

I'm doing all the engine work myself (other than welding the crank and porting the head, etc.) The packages I sent to Tennessee arrived yesterday and I might be getting the crank and Carillo rods from Massachusetts, depends on what the guy tells me when he calls today (Thanks to GixerHP for that one!)

I'm doing as much of this bike myself as I can. That way I can say it was built by me, for me, to my exact specifications. Meaning its truely My Bike!

Once I get the engine stuff back I'm going to post a video on youtube of the rebuild and the engine install.

I'm hopefully gonna get a chance to go pick up the swingarm today, been working late cause of inspections coming up but I might be able to get out on time today. We'll see :please:

More updates are coming though, ain't gonna stop till its done!

Doing most of it yourself is a great idea....as long as it goes together correctly....

Frustration from a blown engine because you skimped on an important task will crush your heart!!

I'm sure that won't happen to you !

Nah, I know the importance of the little stuff. Torque, the right assy lube, new gaskets and o-rings. Been working engines my whole life, but never a Busa motor. Can't be THAT difficult or no one would do it. I'm not gonna lie though. I've learned a shizz ton from you guys and this whole experience and I HOPE someone else learns from all this too!

Im heading to Harry's machine shop today!

So, the idea of a 1507 got planted into my head a LONG time ago. Today, my cousin calls me out of the blue and we just shoot the shizz. He is a racer from CT and is currently on (even though I hate to say this and it makes me sick {Flicka}) a ZX-14R. He used to race his Busa which had a 1507 kit and he'd always be working on it.

Basically, he has conned... uh.... CONVINCED me to NOT get the 1507 unless I want to pull the motor at least once a year. I don't wanna do that.

I've decided to go the 1441 route and MAYBE throw a SMALL shot of Nitrous at her. (GixerHP, this would be a good place for some advice on that)

With that, I'm kind of saddened by it but a 1441 should make a good amount of power.

Input right now if you have anything to say on this. Thank you

Well well, coming around are we!

As for a 1441, call Ape, they have the cranks, with the balancer gear all ready cut off!

If its going to be primarily a street bike i would leave it though!

  Got the crankshaft good to go now, theirs (they say) don't need the balancer because they are balanced and not needed. Whatchu think about that nitrous though?

Not a problem!
As long as you tune it correctly, and constantly pay attention to run logs, nitrous is fine
