My career

If I was young and had to choose a career, It would have been in financial advising. The people that work for companies like Prudential,
T. Rowe Price, Lehman Bros. etc... are exposed to financial opportunities that common folk like us will NEVER get to partake in.
Preferred stock, options, profit sharing...

Financial expert = rich.

Wanna buy 15 Busa's? A vacation home?

Knowing what I know not about cops and the crap they have to deal with, no thanks. Big Fat waste of money...IMO.

But....good luck if that's what you choose. By the way, it will be your moral obligation to cut fully geared, sportbike riders a break if
you ride one yourself.

I've been a police officer for five years now. Been riding sportbikes since I started. I don't really care for the job. Think long and hard before making your decision, and GO TALK TO CURRENT OFFICERS IN YOUR AREA !! They, and only they, can give you the real ups and downs of the job. You're right, its a job where you either really want to do it, or you don't. But things change really quick. Back to the question at hand, yes you can ride a sportbike and be a police officer. It can even open some doors for you down the road. My chief selected me to be our only motor officer, cause he knew I could ride, and ride well. I ride to work in a uniform, but my shirt is always covered by a jacket, so nobody really knows anyways. And I ride in with 2 other police officers on their own sportbikes. I get the best of both worlds, and I didn't have to spend any of my own money for the Harley I ride

Since I was a Kid I always wanted to be a Cop. Heck If I could turn back the years I would have made Better Choices that could have allowed me to be a Police Officer. However, When Your young you Never think about how the Choices you make then and there can Significatly Effect Your Future !!!!!

Good Luck Kid......... Follow Your Dreams !!!!!!!!!!!!

could be a good thing??maybe if more poilce officers rode sportbikes they would understand the urge and not give us tickets every time!!

I ride with a couple of Sheriff's Deputies and believe it or not...and they are the best riding buddies to have in case we get pulled over.

Join the Air Force as a Security Forces member...have us pay for your Criminal Justics degree and get the training needed to start higher than entry level. I hire cops all the time...good luck

I have been an Officer for 19 years. I have an M.B.A and am about to start on my P.hD. I have always rode bikes. Its not a secret either.
I am just mature enough not to act crazy around others. If you look you will find other officers that ride.

As far as a major, CJ is fine if thats what your intrested in, its not mandatory. Real police work is nothing like the books. You will get enough of the legal and constitutional stuff in the Academy. I would broaden my horizon and have exposure to more than just criminal justice on my resume. Police work in todays society is not like COPS anymore.

Good luck.

No big deal. Just don't be a hypocrite.

I don't ride like an azz when on group rides, I also won't write for what I do. If I ride a section of road at 10-15mph over, I will not write for 10-15 over. I don't squid, and have little tolerance for squidly acts.

There is a time and a place for everything. NOT all the time, everyplace.

Law Enforcement will open your eyes on society. Good luck.

I am not in law enforcement but one of my riding buddies is. He rides a Busa and does tone us down a bit but he is still a fun riding bud.

I do on the other hand do a LOT of hiring and our motto is that a Criminal Justice degree will wind you up saying one of two things; license and registration please or.... would you like fries with that.

Choose carefully, the broader the spectrum of your education, the more employable you'll be.

First off, I don't know why you would want to be a cop, as it may be the most thankless job there is, when its done right, and second, major in English or Sociology or Constitutional Law or something and minor in CJ.  Whoever has to read your reports years from now will thank you.  Oh, and no, its not ridiculous for a cop to ride a sportbike.
You've got some very good advice in this thread.  Reconsidering your college major is very good.

I can only imagine how thankless a career in law enforcement is.  I've always said that police officers and teachers should be the highest paid professions in our society...unfortunately, they're not and there's a serious lack of respect for both.

One more thing...life is short.  If this is what you've always wanted to do, don't let anyone talk you out of it.  The hours suck, the pay isn't the best and it's dangerous - but we need good cops who are passionate about what they do.  In the long run, there's nothing worse than waking up in the morning and know that you'll be spending the day at a job you hate.

first of all, I thought you fell of the earth

I've been a LEO for 20 years now and have ridden sport bikes all my life! So no one dosnt affect the other!!!

Bruh, live your life! I'm a Deputy and I ride, not as much as I like. But I do ride! If you're considering this to be a factor, then I think you might not really want to be a LEO! You will have so many other choices that will come before you. Really think about how you'll have to change. You may have friends that live for breaking the laws. Now that's a factor to me deciding what what will you do!!!! And did you live that life as well. My 2 cents!!!

Its good to see that you have lots of like minded people on this forum. No i'm not a cop, but i'm a fire-fighter, I have been for 27 years, ive been riding even longer, you can ride and behave as you want, its what is between you'r ears that counts. Here in the UK we have a max speed limit of 70 MPH, if I tell you that I have kept to tha, I would be telling porkies, I have seen over my fair share of friday night dead un's but I, and so should you, live your life,

Don't let your job dictate the bike you ride, but its you how you behave/ride, and thats in you anyway
