Passenger Speed

What is the fastest you have gone with a passenger. Just wondering because I was out with my wife for the first time on my busa today (finally bought her a seat) and I got up to about 80mph and she started pinching me in disapproval. I know she doesn't like going too fast on bikes (I learned not to go over 100mph on my old bike...ouch) but I didn't think 80mph would be a big deal. Thought it would be fun to hear from others about this.

As long as both tires are on the ground my wife cares not. We have been 160+ indicated. Now a wheeling gets me hit in the ribs after front is back down.

I got it to about 80 didn't seem fast to me, wasn't till we stopped at the gas station that she said she was scared. Then I felt like a 1st class ars. Then her parents were less than pleased with the way I rode, and just when I thought I couldn't feel any worse about it I did. I am reluctant to put a passenger on my bike now, I leave my passenger seat at home to discourage riders.

just remember, with a passenger, their life is in your hands.... i'm not lecturing though..... that's just always my first and repeating thought while having a passenger on my bike... and always taken into consideration when determining speed. I wouldn't advise pinching though, i would advise patting.... pinching could create a sudden movement of the driver.... not safe

My wife wanted to see why some of us riders like the big speed so much, and since there's nothing like experiencing something for yourself......she had me take her up to a gps indicated 168. It was on my favorite long empty 10 mile stretch of desert road of course...safety first lol. But she loved the rush and spiritual type cleansing it gives you, and also now brags about it to all our riding buds  Silly girl
I think she's a bigger speed freak then me now

ACCELERATION VS SPEED...... which is better? would you rather be able to go 200mph or go 120mph but get there twice as fast?

120 maybe....years ago bike only had KM hr it was from Canada....never knew how fast I was going!

How fast would a 1982 GS650E go?

Typically only about one full second of boost when we are on the highway. So about 100 mph for everyday riding. But we have been much faster.

My wife has been up to about 145 on the Busa with no complaints. We got stuck on US 129 behind three 600's from FL that wanted to act a'fool. They would fly down the straights, park it in the turns, and not let anybody around them. First long straight we came to, the Busa laid waste to all three.

It's certainly not a regular thing for us, but these guys were being ridiculous.

She just told me it's fun in short bursts, but she wouldn't want to have to hang on while cruising at 150 for a long distance.

I would rather go 200, And it would be cool if I could do it with the wife on also, She loves the speed part of it, Heck she just likes to ride hard whether it be corners or straights.

my wife is more of a speed freak than me.on my old bike my brother would pass then slow down over and over (thinking his hawk was fast).i turned my head and said hang on.she gripped and we hit 120 3 min's later he caught up. come to think of it he never did that again.

We have been 170 indicated on mine, But I am sure it was only 155 or so

I guess my best advice would be discuss some hand signals with your next passenger before your next ride. For example she can tap you if she feels fear and that will let you know when to back off

I would recommend these, as they've worked out very well for us. Even with the boom mic, they tuck into a full face helmet just fine. Our hand signal days are over.

70ish, my wife doesn't ride very often with me, when she does she just likes to cruise around town. She doesn't like getting on the highway at all. I respect her feelings and leave the foolish stuff to solo riding only. :) Every so often I'll leave a stop light and give it a little burst and the bear hug of death commences.
