PDX GSX1300R

I've long had a thing for Hemi Chargers. I got to rent one in Arizona (not a Hellcat or anything). It was great. Well I wanted to see a wide body car up close before they were gone. Today was the day. To my astonishment, the shop had three Hellcat Challengers, a Hellcat Charger and a Demon (I think), the one that does wheelies.

Actually more of a dark grey come to think.
I wonder what colors they came in that year?
This one had AC and a sunroof, and some type of cowl or vented hood, I just remember the hood wasn't flat, and that it was always a cool little car.
I rallied it on a gravel road a few times, great fishtails and drifts, lol.
I had learned to drive a straight gear several years before, in my Dad's '79 Dodge Colt, 2door, 4 cylinder, 4 speed.
Those little rear wheel drive 4 cylinders were alot of fun to drive...
as lack of traction is the best substitute for lack of power...
(those are my words of wisdom for the day) lmao
First car was a '79 Z28..........great car but sucked fuel like it was free and really sucked in the winter and we had lots of winter...

I traded it while I was on leave for a little Mazda MX6......the guys were quite surprised but happy that we could go places in the snow....

It's next to impossible to get any Dodge products here now....and no Hellcats in any guise....

About 2 years ago our local dealership had 3 Hellcat Chargers and 2 Challengers....one of the Chargers had a very obnoxious exhaust on it.....the saleslady started it up and I said every cop in a 2 mile radius just dropped his donut wondering where that came from....she laughed at that...

My buddy who has a Mustang GT PP2 and Challenger for the winter wanted to get a Hellcat but the dealership said he can't order one anymore and don't seem interested in finding him one.

Would that be the first year with the full front bumper cover vs a conventional bumper? Pretty cars.

I had a '77 Celica ST in high school.

I put "Addco" sway bars on mine with wider tires and a swap meet Recaro seat, to go autocrossing for the first time ever. Which was quickly followed by a lesson in something called "camber" and not destroying fully-treaded tires in an afternoon. Whoops...

Once, I looped her in a "fast" corner. Instead of logically applying the brakes and heading back to the pits, I applied my future "Busa man mentality" and notched her back into first gear, while sailing backwards, dumped the clutch and hid the Liftback in a cloud of tire smoke as I "re-pealed" forward.

The company had moved us from Southern California to Iowa, so a rust free Celica was an oddity. Sold her for the down payment on our first house, which had this awesome 24x24 garage on an alley. And my new to me $300 F100. My first truck.

I wish I still had pictures from yesteryear......

Many of them got destroyed by a water leak......and any that I had digitally remade were on an external hard drive that I lost when I took it to my son's house...he asked if he could keep it for a bit to transfer some pictures and I never saw it again....he figures one of his kids (who were little then) lost it..

It had something like 5,000 pictures on it that were irreplaceable...

Hi. I had a Lotus Europa (you have to look up what it liiks like like bee lost all my old pics). It come with 175/70/13 tires front and 195/70/13 rears I put on 245/40/15 front and 255/40/15 rears. + a lot of HP mods. Fun on the street 4 wheel slides tail out on some race tracks I would beat 454 ci vetts.

That would be a factory Race Hemi, with the staggered carbs
650ish+ hp, and came in only a handful of vehicles.
I know a couple of guys who are into them, and prices continue to soar.

This one is mounted in a kayak, lol

Holy moly! My buddy had a 454 jet boat back in the day. We would work all week for gas money then ski all weekend. Oddly I was probably in the best shape of my life...

Say, is he running water through those headers?

My older brother used to build fiberglass boats and once built a 40 ft cigar boat with twin 454s in it.......It was a serious beastie and had cameras to see forward as you couldn't see past the bow and cameras for docking.....

He then went on to build Sea doo Speedster boats.....they were fun....

No water through the headers, and, strangely enough, he put those headers on after deciding to not put it back in tbe water, and only trailer it to shows now.
The other headers are of similiar design, but he wanted the fancy finish of these for boat shows.
Ironically, you can only start the engine, but not run it...as these headers are too close to the hull...and would melt it!
lmao!
He used to race the boat in the 70's and 80's in the Norfolk Va area, he said it would do 98mph...quickly.
Basically you sit and idle, then hit it wide open, while steering with the wheel and 2 foot pedals...all while staring at the sky...without flipping it.
I think it takes some savant skills to drive it, lmao.
The engine came from an early 60's Plymouth Belvedere too, a family sedan than Dodge had factory gutted and put their baddest engine in.
Apparently he knew the guy who got the car new(as that guy's dad owned a Norfolk area dealership then), within 2 weeks the car was totalled, but the engine unharmed.
My friend's dad(the boat owner) went straight down there and bought the engine.
The boat itself has some value, and a street hemi does too...but being an early race hemi...there's no telling what someone would give for it now.
His daughter will want it sold whenever he passes, and the engine will probably find it's way back to a rare Dodge of the era.
He has several original valve covers in different finishes as you can see, other original parts for it, and some Keith Black parts.
The thing is a goldmine.

When I was in Edmonton Canada training many years ago, one of my Sgts had a neighbor that collected hemi engines.....no car, just the engines all on stands and all running....he had some really strange and rare ones too....I recall he had a couple aircraft hemis and an "elephant" 426 which was worth a small fortune.....

I think he said he had around 25 engines and enough parts to make 10 or so more...

Amazing skill! I thought one BBC was fast…

Awesome! In my travels for work I come across fun stuff from time to time. Once a guy raised the door on his garage to show me the drywall damage and revealed a fancy car. I accidently blurted: "Damn!!" He just laughed.

Super cool!

There are a couple rallys in the region. I'm not too worried about being "that non-Harley guy." And I would like to try one. But I would like to hear from somebody that has participated in something like this. Pretty fun? Or just a circus?
