So Here's Today's Problem

Ken, you may need to replace the O-ring on your gas tank filler assembly and maybe even your tank and injectors. That strongly resembles mine when I had a rusty tank.

Ken, did you change out the black fuel pump housing that the fuel level sending unit mounts to?
My problem ended up being it.
No, just tried the pump, Nate. When I connected the new one and turned the bike on the tach went to 10500, hesitated until the pump finished, then completed the rotation and bounced twice before returning to zero. It may be the sending unit, so I'll keep trying until its fixed.

Thanks, Paul. I looked at the O-ring and have read that they should be changed, but it didn't seem to be inflated. Don't want to wait for the dealer to get one in and not sure of the size of the O-ring?

I did the same thing.
Replaced pump only and it helped some, but still didn't cure it.
Replaced the entire unit housing and all, and it worked perfect.
I never had the tach readings like you described.
But try to find a complete low mileage fuel pump and replace it.

How many miles on your bike?

Also, do you have an aftermarket fuel cap?
I've never seen a pump look that bad before. Maybe just crappy gas, but it may be getting water in it like NJ said.

Col if you have the time and the know how you might want to pull the injectors and check them as that fuel pump looked pretty corroded.

She's got 13k, but 10,700 when I bought her. She has run great without problems until now.

+1
I'm sure if the pump looked that bad, the rest of the system couldn't look much better.
That's why I was wondering if it might be good to run some injector cleaner through it now?
I dont know if that will help with that amount of corrosion.

Kinda my thought as well.

did the bike sit for a while? your whole fuel system might be jacked after seeing those pics of the pump. Fuel stablizer is supposed to keep that kind of thing from happening right?
