So this whole time, #1 was closed? Does it not move with the rest or just closed at idle?
Seems to be a bent blade
Bike wouldn’t idle. So I never rode it as it was. Opens fine Just choking that cylinder for air at idle.
So with it running so poorly at idle. I never thought to go for a spin on it.
20 years ago I probably would have thrashed it to seat the rings

That is the most common cause
I am not 100% sure it's bent or synched bad
WAY WAY back in my posts I asked about the chances that my carb stix were messed up
don't know how they would be.
either way this rack of throttle bodies have been on the bike for 15 years and half dozen meltdowns so yeah at some time it probably backfired (altho in all the times I have hurt/rebuilt this motor I never recall any backfires)
