Strange Stealership Encounter

I'm in the stealership this morning for some small odds and ends. Stuff like the fairing bolts, washers and nuts for the windscreen, a 15 amp fuse for the headlight and 2 turn signal bulbs. I already know they are going to beat me over the head price wise but I don't want to wait on stuff like that thru the mail and figure I can bite the bullet on this one. I've called ahead to make sure they had what I needed as not to make a blank trip. I called with the part numbers and they confirmed they had the parts in question.
I get there and there is guy in line ahead of me already and I catch part of the conversation. He's saying, "It installs on your bike and gives you the actual Miles per hour." The counter person goes in the back comes out and says we've never heard of anything like that. I don't know how long this has been going on and I see a 60% off all Shoei helmets sign and get distracted. After a while this guy gets pissed and says "Anyone that knows anything about bikes should know what I'm talking about. Please get someone out here that knows something cause obviously you don't have a clue about bikes." They have my attention again. So the parts manager finally comes out and tells the guy that there is no such thing on the market like that. I step in now. Sure there is, It's called a speed healer and it's been on the market for years. I personally have one on my bike. The parts manager tells me he's never heard of it and goes back to masturbating or whatever the heck he was doing. The guy leaves and now I'm standing there for 10 minutes and everyone has left the counter. I guess they had a real circle jerk going on in the back.
So finally this lady comes out and asks what I needed. I tell her I called about these parts and handed her a printed list. She leaves and is gone like forever. Finally comes back and say we don't have these in stock. Didn't I call up there not 15 minutes before to make sure. No need to get my blood pressure out of wack so I leave without saying another word. Drive 20 miles across town on a hunch to Barney's Motorcycle and Marine not expecting a lot but lucked up and they had everything I needed plus it was cheaper than if I'd had ordered it online.
It just goes to show that just because they work in a bike shop doesn't mean they know a lot about bikes.

So true.

I can tell you from experiance that there are some real dumb folk that they let work behind the parts counter in some places. I work at a dealer in the service dept and I have been to our parts counter a few times and gotton stupid crap like this and I WORK THERE I had to show them that stuff does exist

If you own a dealer ship your a crook not a biker. They kiss your ass when your buying the bike but don't dare ask for help after the sale.

From a different perspective I've worked in dealerships at the parts counter. I don't know everything about every bike, nor do I know about every part out on the market. So give me a frikken break if I haven't heard of it before. There's 500000000000 different models in a full line dealer and I can't know everything about every one. If you come in w/ a name of a product or tell me what it does, I will attempt to help you find it on the net or in a catalog. But if you come in w/out a clue and have nothing to help me help you find this part that someone told you was out there then i may have trouble helping you...

maybe they had your parts but because you made them look stupid they werent intrested in helping you at the moment....know what I mean

I have seen this crap before at a Kawi dealer here in town. It ticks me off when I go in there and have deal with someone that is" what now?". Its like, OMG, I cant believe you came here needing parts, we dont want your money!

If the customer was so smart why didn't he ask for a speedo healer and not a "It installs on your bike and gives you the actual Miles per hour."?

It took you to say it's called a speedo healer and the customer was calling them stupid?

First let me say that if someone is truly a moron, I'm not going to defend them..... that being said...

Moron, noob, stealer, thief, idiot.... strong words.. strong words being said by people who obviously have never worked at a busy dealer. So, your a Hayabusa expert. Cool. How long did it take you to get there? Weeks,months... years!.. Now do that for 2000 more models.. Suzukis Kaws Hondas.. whatever.. do it for bikes then watercraft and snowmobiles and generators and ATVs.. What's the perfect prop for a 93 JS750? what's the good tire for a 2008 Teryx? what's the startup draw capacity for a GA1000 generator?? My point? You folks with your propensity for calling names wouldn't last ONE FREAKING DAY behind the counter at a busy dealership before some customer asked you a question you didn't know the answer to!..

I GUARANTEE IT!!!...

and when they left the counter they might think you're a moron.

Rant mode off... I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming

It seems like some people don't want to go the extra mile to help. Speedoheeler seems like it would be used on any bike so this item wouldn't be specific only to certain bikes. It should be common knowledge to an experienced parts guy. If they don't have it and might have to do a little research as to what it is or where to get it they just play stupid and hope you'll drop it....or maybe they really are stupid,...or lazy.

My experiences both bad and good...

The bad...I walk into the local dealership and ask their opinion about leather pants and what they think would be a good fit for my garilla frame. The answer, "Here dude here's three catalogs find a pair and we'll order them, should get here in 3 weeks"... Hmmm great help, I walked out...

The bad, I call the same local dealership and ask about a rear tire for the gixxer, $116 bucks, wow great price.  I call the same company but different store closer which is close to my work and the same tire is $250 something. I tell them wait a minute aren't you all owned by the same company?  Answer, "Well uh ya but we charge retail and the other store doesn't" LoL...eh...

The good... I walk into a independent dealership and ask about mesh riding pants and for an opinion.  I'm shown several pairs on the rack and told they can order but try on a few and find a size.  I'm then greeted at the counter and two catalogs open with my choices. I order a pair, too small, LoL  I return to the store no problem, no fee for shipping or re-stocking. 4 days later I pickup the new pair and go on my way... Hmmm too easy...

The bad... Same independent dealership but sales this time. I'm looking at Busas and asking for a price and wondering if they can get the price down.  A salesperson at the counter with four others blurts out "Well we can get you a great price on a Katana 750, Ha Ha Ha Hee hee Ho Ho"  So being short tempered I reply "Oh ya I just rode in on my Katana ahole wanna go for a ride?"  He stuttered and said "No"  I replied "Ahole I bought my Katana from you guys last year"  Just then the sales manager's tells the punk to put a sign on the last remaining K7 Busa and marks it down to $9800 something and points to me to look at the sign.  I laughed and walked out...  The last visit I paid that dealership I had no one trying to sell me a bike but I did however get a salesperson tell me his depressing life story and how he wanted to quit, LoL...  Just think they could have sold me a gixxer or busa at the time...

I have had some good experiences with the service at one dealership. They gave me a free pickup when I was left stranded with a cut tire and when I picked up my bike, it was cleaned and detailed, nice...

I walked in to ACTION MOTORSPORTS LAFAYETTE IN. to buy some antifreeze and synthetic oil and the girl running the counter asked me "what kind of bike did you say that was because I've never heard of it before." I was like
wtf.gif
you have got to be kidding me there was one sitting right in front of her on the showroom floor. Needless to say I waited for 20 minutes got fed up and left. So I know exactly what you went through. STEALERSHIPS SUCK (most of them anyway.)

I stopped going to the closest dealer after 3 (yes, 3) service people told me I didn't have a steering damper on the bike and there was no need to sync my throttle bodies...

I now travel 50 odd miles to the best dealership on the planet (IMHO) because every time I bring the bike in, they do everything I ask and always check back to see how I liked the changes, etc... And their sales staff is A+!

If you're in or near DE and need work done to your bike - don't go near Powersports East... take your business down to L & D Suzuki in Dover.

You know there are some really good points in this thread. I was at Flatout in G-wood, IN talking about a new undertail. They did an insurance estimate on repair work on my bike and the undertail was part of it. They included a Hot Bodies undertail which is not what I would want and I asked about a Euro or Mototech and they had never heard of them. I asked how they came up with Hot Bodies and was told that a lot of people come in and ask for that brand. These guys behind the counters do not spend the countless hours searching Hayabusa parts on the internet that we do. How could they considering they are carrying so many different bikes? But when I had the guy do a google search on "Hayabusa Undertail", he started going "cool, look at this one" at the results. We ended up ordering a cyclops since it appears to be really bright. After reading the various opinions, I am going to start cutting those peeps behind the parts counter a little more slack. Thanks for making me think about more than just my view!

60% of Shoei, i need one at that price!
I get my info here and then buy online. Only go there to gaze at bike and ocasionally buy one.
