Suzuki Corporate and the 08 RECALL

Bummer. Mine falls within the recall. I checked my wires and they are all jacked up. I went to the dealer today where i bought mine in Raleigh NC last weekend and their service dept. had absolutely no clue about the recall. I acutally called them on the phone before actually going into the store and the guy in the service department basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about (prick). My sales guy checked for me today and I acutally referred him to look at this site. He said he would be on the lookout for the recall notice; I emailed the 12 page letter to him as well. This is a big dealership too. It really suprised me that some of the smaller Suzuki shops down here in NC were aware of the recall and not selling Busas, but the big dog dealers were still clueless. Thank God for this site. I would have been one of the many clueless riders! My gratitude to you guys for being on top of things and keeping us so well informed!!

If the big dogs acted like they knew they would not be able to sell any till it's fixed big dog=$ little dealerships= care about the customer.

I'm taking my '08 in for it's 14k service this week. I will have the recall work performed while they already have the bike apart for the service. My VIN is among those required for 'recall'.

Like Warchild, with this many miles on, it's unlikely there's a problem that won't be rectified before it becomes a real issue.

Mine falls in the first range, and was improperly routed from the factory. It was correctly routed and positioned when I installed some goodies within the first 100 miles. The first 26 was on a dyno so those don't count. I have an appointment on Tuesday to get that checked off the warranty list.

Warchild you are excellent and you help a lot of friends.

I do not have the 08, but thanks

Got mine in April in LA, been up and down the coast of California, wandered from LA to Chicago, went around Gitchi Gummi and back to Chicago haven't had any oh f___ moments yet....that I can recall....6000 miles or so.

mine is in the range, but i looked and mine looks fine. I only question the final 2 to 3 inches of the wire just prior to the ignition, there is a very signifigant bend in the wire, and this is in the correct picture. Does this seem a little odd to anyone else?
I just checked mine and corrected it. It wasnt off much. But your right, I would think the tortion or twist or pull of their config. would screw with the switch. I was concerned with full turn to the right, the whole harness looks tight. I might pull that bottom of instur. pannel and loosen the clamp in the faring some. I guess I should read the whole dealers letter though...

Welcome to the oRg, sorry that your first post just happens to be on a Safety Recall for the 08 bike... Those are some good numbers, keep the RSD and post up over in the new member forum intro'ing yourself.

Talked to my dealer today and he said "Since they sold the bike to me, that regardless if it is routed right or not, it is thier responsibility to replace the parts if the bike falls under the vin #."

My bike is going in on monday since I will be leaving on the 25th for New york for the summer with the bike.

i just purchased the 08 after the recall. it only effected certian vins. Suzuki is working fast. It is reassuring that a company actually is concerned about thesaftey of it's riders.

My bike is fine . Someone posted the rnage of vins that are effected.

Be sfae and ride hard.

Completely agree with your assessment...

Welcome to our world.

Well, I fall under the VIN numbers affected; however, I looked and my zip-tie is over the blue sticker.

I will still have the dealership verify; but why would mind fall in the affected numbers, yet look ok?

Mine was checked today. It is correctly routed and positioned, but they said because it's listed and has been ridden they will order new parts. The gave me back my keys and said "Enjoy the ride. We'll call you when they get here."

I would council AGAINST this, because they are wrong!!!!!!!

If your wire harness routing/positioning is correct from the assembly line, they do NOT have to replace your ignition switch. Removing the switch is not a simple 10-minute job. To do so when it is completely unnecessary only gives the dealer amply opportunity to inadvertently dork something up on your bike!

Serious biz, if the routing/positioning is correct, then according to the Recall Campaign document, they simply punch a small circular dot next to the beginning of your VIN number to denote that the Safety Campaign has been performed on the bike, and away you go. No tearing the ignition switch out of the bike, replacing tumblers, etc that those with mis-routed harnesses have to go through.

This is my first recall, Does Suzuki provide loaner bikes during the harness installation? I did purchased the 5 year extended warranty.

I understand the concerns, but since it was ridden in the incorrect position for about 80 miles they want to make sure it's right. The mechanic that is doing the work is the only other person that I trust to work on my bikes.

Ah, I didn't get that from your initial post, I thought you said "it is correctly routed and positioned", meaning your wire harness was good-to-go right from the assembly line.

If you've been riding it while it was mis-routed, then obviously, that's a different story.

So as long as the gray tape is covered by the zip tie it is routed right? am i correct in this???

my vin falls in the range but apears to be routed right ... the gray tape is covered by the zip tie.
