The Church of Oprah exposed

My wife is an Oprah fan and we have very different views about her.
Oprah is a machine, designed to make her and hers more and more money.
Funny, with all of her money she doesn't do as much as she could to help others.
She has a net worth of about $2.5 billion and only donates about $58 million to charities.
That is about 2.3%. That doesn’t even amount to the yearly interest on her continually increasing net worth.
It is still $58 million and that is nice, but as a function of what she could give, I say she is on the cheap side of generosity. (selfish).
I personally don’t think she has many skills except making money, and don’t give her any credence for most of what she says, especially about religion.
She is still a very, very, unhappy lady.
Go figure...

I cannot stand Oprah, but why is it that people think this way? Just because she is filthy rich doesn't mean that she should be required to give her money to others. It's hers, she made it so she can do with it what she wants.

I'll be damned if I ever give any of my money to people who dont deserve it.

Don't forget, she is a big part of getting Obama in office...
saying he is "the ONE"...the one what...???
The one antichrist that is in his 40s of muslim decent and will
be in control of the most powerfull nation and will ruin all...??????
(revelations)

Oh yeah...vote for him :banghead:

Oh CUM'ON... ???

You and I do it every day, we give money to many who don't deserve it. The government takes part of our check and then gives it to those who will never work even though they could. They will never be productive yet we still support them. :banghead:

In the case of Oprah, I also don't watch her, I can't stand her. To be honest I watch very, very little television period. I believe it is an individual choice how much money a person like that gives. But I also believe it shows a persons true colors when they have a net worth of 2.5 billion and give such a small percentage.

Only because it's required by law.:moon:

so in the first paragraph you're capitalist to the core....and in the second paragraph you think oprah should give a higher percentage of HER money so YOU can see value in her? I need coffee

That wasn't quite how I stated it, it makes me zero difference how much money she gives, I could care less because I won't be in line to receive any of it. But I do believe it speaks volumes when someone has that much money and doesn't help those less fortunate. I'm not talking about distribution of wealth by some government requirement or handing out $100 bills on the street corner, I'm speaking about giving to charity and worthy causes such as red cross, cancer research etc., programs that aren't tied to politics and rely on public donations to continue doing work for the community.

Let's face it, Greed is what is sinking this economy today. Corporations demanding higher profits at the expense of employees, oil corporations making record high profits, utility companies paying off politicians for rate increases the list goes on.

When someone has billions and only gives less than 3% to help out humanity, there is a certain amount of greed there. No one person will ever need that much money. Call it what you will but I believe it is right and proper to help those in need. We have members here that help out other members, does that make the org a center for wealth distribution? Every person is entitled to their own opinion.

Falls into the same retarded catagory as "The homosexual agenda" .

It looks like there is a segment of Christians that is so insecure about their faith that they need to start whitch hunting again. The morons that put this crap together are the one you should be afraid of. Shouldn't good Christians be spending time helping the poor, feeding the hungry, and spreading the love of Jesus. Insted some find the need to spread fear and hatred. Not very Christian to me.

Rise above it.

I agree, why all the concern what every one else is doing???

If I had billions like her, I WOULD NOT donate it to any charity. I would pay my tithes and the rest goes to my children and their children and so on.

Okay, I lied. I would donate to the Hayabusa charity.

I dont trust any "charity",they are all corrupted,if I had that kind of $$ I would definately help others but id do it on a personal level

I agree with everything you said except the part about the wealthy donating money. If they do great, if they don't..great. IT"s their money to do with what they want. 3% of a couple billion is a heavy suitcase. And just because someone is worth say 2 billion, doesn't mean they have 2 billion dollars. Liquid assets usually amount to a small percentage of net worth.

point made, you would give to something that is dear to you, hayabusa charity, tithes and children still yet if you just paid tithes, that's more than 7% of what she is giving. Each of us has something that is dear to us that we would most likely give to.

another small flaw in that...tithe is 10% of your earning not 10% of your net worth...though I'm sure most churches would be happy with the latter.

either I have misstated or you have misread. I agree it is up to each individual to donate what they feel is proper. It is not the place of anyone to dictate it, yet in doing so it is the right of everyone to think what they want of that person.

I also agree that someones worth doesn't mean they have that much cash and that 3% of a couple billion is a lot.

There is something inherently wrong with someone that has hundreds of millions of dollars squirreled away... A life so consumed with making money can not be a good thing..

I like the secret millionaire show myself... they think they are out to change some lives (and they do I suppose) but I think the big change so far has been to them.. If it helps them refocus some of that effort to helping at a personal level, that is a fine thing..

Asking someone to just give for the sake of giving is ridiculous.. as posted above in not so many words, many charities are corrupt in their own right.. Let the person with the money figure out how to do the most good.. (if they find it in their hearts)

Otherwise, the Liberals are going to re appropriate the money for redistribution anyway..

Is it spring yet? no new bike threads....
