why all of a sudden the word chritsmas offensive? what a joke! i realize there are other holidays ,so why not add them to the list instead of whiping out the most important one of the year ,excluding my birthday. rant.gif here is to the hyper sensitive "MERRY CHRISTMAS"

I refuse to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.

I will tell you Merry Christmas!!!

I am offended by retailers NOT using the word CHRISTMAS. This is AMERICA. Retailers that do not use the word Christmas will not get my dollars for Christmas.

Lots to discuss here. Why is any word offensive? More importantly, why is the belief of another human being offensive? That's what I don't understand. It causes me no grief whatsoever that someone puts a nativity scene in their front yard. Or in front of a building. It doesn't make me thing that the owner of the building wants me to believe as they do. I'm not that stupid.

Which means, of course, that I believe people who are offended by such things are

A) Stupid.

B) Insecure in their own beliefs.

Stupid because they can't comprehend the purpose of the decorations which is not to proseletyze (well, maybe in some cases) but to reflect and honor and worship. Who cares if it's publicly or not?

Insecure because they believe that a mere inanimate display is going to cause their own beliefs and faith to become compromised somehow. Absurd.

Like saying "under god" in the pledge or "in god we trust" on our money or the ten commandments on the courthouse wall. How in the HELL does anything like that cause me some kind of decay or compromise my rights to my own life, liberty or pursuit of happiness? Fact is, it does no such thing.

I'm an atheist but for cryin' out loud, the idea that people can be somehow injured by such things is completely moronic!!! MMO really caused a stir back when.

And whoever said, "good men who sit still without combatting such things are just as evil," really hit the nail right on the head.

Businesses are told to not display the names of anything suggesting religion in any way, when it comes to things that involve payroll or taxes.

(Red05 @ Nov. 29 2006,11:30) The fact that this question even needs to be asked is sad. 35-0 says we don't have a problem......
My point exactly!
+1

My camera takes crappy night pictures.

I have a snow making machine. laugh.gif

I'd think the mention of thanksgiving would be 20x more offensive to native americans than the mention of christmas would be to non-christians.

(BigDawg_03Busa @ Nov. 29 2006,09:45) It's the meaning of the season, without the birth of Christ, no Christmas.  Without the reserection, no Easter!  The question is why has it become such a heated debate over the last few years?  Sign of the times maybe  wow.gif
I think it started back in the 90's. One big pathetic feel sorry for me because I'm a rat trapped in a cage generation. Can't hand out an F on a test because that might make junior feel bad about himself. Don't keep score in sports because the losers might get offended.

Factor in the billions of ritalin pills that were handed out and now we have a bunch of "I'm offended" young adults who make up the 5% of complainers and it's probably going to get worse. Seems the school shooting phenomenon started with the ritalin generation too. Coincidence? rock.gif

I hope it's just a fad so that in 20 years from now we can look back at these "PC" times the same way we now look back at the 70 's "if it feels good do it" or the 80's "me" generations.

(BusaWhipped @ Nov. 29 2006,07:16) Another case of the loud 5% dictating to the silent 95%.  All it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing.
You summed it up PERFECTLY
I have written to EVERY retailer that uses "Holiday" instead of "Christmas" in their advertising. I inform them I do not need to purchase gifts for Europeans on vacation. I need Christmas Gifts and will find them in a store labeled as such. I get responses stating they are advertising to a diverse population and it is necessary to not exclude them. I reply, When is the last time you saw Jewish people decorate their yard with Snowmen for Hannakuh or people celebrating Kwanza putting up a Kwanza tree!?!
If we don't stand up to this lunacy of changing our culture to protect the "feelings" of 1/10th of 1% of this country's population We're gonna lose more than Christmas! It's time for us as a nation to wake up.

(Black Bird Killer @ Nov. 29 2006,10:09) It's not the other religions being offended so much as the ACLU.  In today's society Christmas isn't much different than Halloween.  Everybody celebrates it, even non-Christians.  Lawmakers and politicians want to do things like the above calendar, but ask them if they are willing to work thru Christmas.  Dont think so.

A little history,  as stated earlier, Jesus was born in the spring of the year.  Six months after his cousin John the Baptist, who was born in October.  Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday and the Catholic church, in an attempt to bring religion to the Pagans, changed the holiday to more of a "Christian" holiday.
Excellent point. Here is some interesting reading from the History Channel.

Christmas History

Not Offended, Christmas has nothign to do with Christ or Christianity anyway. So what difference does a label make?

n addition Political correctness will be our downfall. We need to stand up for morality. The guns.gif ACLU is the biggest group of Biggots & have to be the most EXTREME group of racist. They are the one responsible for removing Christ from every place they can. Definately a tool of the Satan. This country was built on Christian Morals & the guns.gif ACLU is one by one doing away with those morals.

But they all love the US dollar with "In God we trust printed on it!!!!" And they are the same people that don't want us to show anything around them that have to do with God, but want to move to America. Oh and you must respect their God even if your God is not respected by them! Yes were going down a messed up road here.
