Ugh!!! Speeding ticket in NC

So here is the scoop.

Apparently they wrote 68 tickets in 2 hours for anyone going 2 mph over the posted limit which was 65mph.

Actually GNBRETT I wasn't referring to you because you obviously know what you're talking about. Now, about you being an ass about my comment....:moon:
my bad sorry. there were only 3 ppl that responded and two of em were cops so I just ASSumed.

Test a LIDAR with tuning forks?. Really?
no radar only which is why if running laser vs radar the cop will hav nothn to to show the operator if requested. if the radar is portable which is pretty rare these days but they do exist thats possible. which is why the GA statute which I'm sure was written when the only test measuring instrument available was radar is useless is using laser. not that the person ur showing wud know his ass from his elbow about wat ur talkn about anyway so its a stupid outdated statute which is why only one state offers it.

another way of achieving a false reading is where the laser reflected off a wing mirror for example and hit a stationary reflective object and then reflecting off the mirror a second time adding additional time n flight to the initial distance calculation of the unit. it happens.

where did u get that info from? +2 seems a little ridiculous.

That should have read more than 2 mph over the limit. So, if you were going 68mph in the 65mph posted, you got a ticket.

Information from an associate who works with my wife, her cousin was one of the LEO's on duty.

that just doesn't make any sense knowing that just as many will be traveling 10-15mph over the limit. but I guess they don't play down there.

Some officers write for 1MPH over the limit.

Sometimes I wish that were always the case. I mean it's called a speed LIMIT not a speed target. I hate the fact that in many places, you literally have to go 10-15 over so you don't get run over by everyone else. It leads to everyone gaming the speed limit based on what they think they can get away with. Most LEOs threshold is around 10mph. I'm perfectly happy, traveling the speed limit maybe 90% of the time. It's the other 10% that gets me in trouble but so far I've only had two warnings and no speeding tickets.

I do have a question for GNBRETT though. I remember from my AF LEO training long long ago that an officer only needs to "Observe" someone busting the limit either through VASCAR, clocking against their own speedo, radar or comparison against other traffic.

they have to track the vehicle with the naked eye and then CONFIRM with a speed instrument like laser or radar or vascar. when you get trained and certified to use radar or laser you have to be within + or - 3 mph with the naked eye.

its pretty easy to do with radar cause you can hear the doppler which emits a higher pitch as the speed goes up so in ur head you know when the pitch is high the speed is high so ur supposed to track with the naked eye and then check the radar to confirm what ur seeing and in fact hearing.

im not trained in vascar cause thats soemthn normally done on a highway. and usually when someone is goin down a hill and ur at the other end up hill so u can see the target location of where the vehicle begins and where the target locations ends so u can clock it from one distance to another. there is not a more accurate system then vascar. time and distance aren't subject to weather or other obstructions.

but a cop does not need a speed instrument to write you for exceeding the posted speed limit. he can surely write you a ticket if in his eyes which are trained eyes and experienced eyes that you are traveling above the posted speed limit. in most states it wud not equate to SPEEDING but yet traveling too fast or traveling fast which means he didn't get u with laser/radar or tracked u so it wud be equivalent to going 1 mph over the posted limit which is possible to what happened to TallTom who states he was written for going 1 mph over the limit.

if the speed limit is 25 mph and u go blowing past me and I can establish in my experience that you were EXCEEDING the speed limit yet I didn't get u on radar a ticket can surely be written.

At least you weren't in Cali, my last sppeding ticket was 5 years ago and cost me over $500, that was for 60 in a 55. Recently got a failure to stop at red signal which cost me $635. We've got some awesome roads but legislators are robbing the citizens to pay for everything. Have yet to get a ticket on the Busa.

yea them fines out there are outrageous out there. especially when the only ones that pay it are legal citizens. the illegals jus giv them there cousins name who probably lives in mexico anyway....

Radar detector in your future? Just sayin'......................
if he was tracked by radar it cud help but not laser. the laser unit isn't ON at all times like most radar units are. they don't hav to be ON but most cops are lazy including myself and jus leave it on cause for the 500 ppl that have radar defectors there are 10,000 more that day that won't.

a laser detector will NOT work faster then the laser unit will record. by the time the cop has locked in the target with laser its too late. a lidar only requires 1/250th second to read and the cop looks thru it and finds his target vehicle THEN pulls the trigger. radar/laser detectors can and surely do work in some cases but often gives a false sense of safety.

a motorcycle is a little harder to read cause its a smaller mass.

Tuesday, received four letters from Attorneys stating their records show I have a traffic offence and offering help. One even quotes his price $75 and up depending on offence.

I guess I am starting to understand how the economy works in NC.
