Warm weather here brings the snakes out.

We had one fatality North of here last year, another much closer to home the year before. Certainly plenty about this weather.

Today we lost two hens to a snake.
A lot of my place is laid out and planted or put aside for wildlife, so I can’t really complain when wildlife does what wildlife does. I’m sad about losing a couple of very tame hens, but I’d have been more upset if it had been a fox.

A reasonable size Coastal Carpet Python. Not hard to relocate when it eaten a whole hen !

On a positive note, it’s nice to see a snake here that’s non-venomous for a change. Much easier to deal with.

Geeeeez, it’s like you’re on the other side of the planet!! It’s 35f right now but will drop into the 20s before daybreak. The mountains got some snow but only some rain here @ 2,300’. May warm to the low 60s by the weekend. Still no snow and it’s almost February. Very strange.

Where my brother lives in my hometown, they got 4 feet of snow in less than 3 days and are under a winter storm watch right now....

He said there was a remain in place order in effect and the snow plows were pulled off the roads..

I said it reminds me of how it was when we were kids, the snow would be too deep to ride our snowmobiles sometimes...

'Remain in place' order...
Where are you going in 4' of snow?!
lmao

Whew.......minus 22'F out there this morning.....a wee bit nippy........and that is before any windchill...

I plugged the wife's car's block heater in last night just to help it warm up this morning....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When it gets cold enough you can hear bangs from frost popping rocks or popping the boards on the deck...often times I will need to screw down boards as the frost pops the screws up.....I find them when I shovel the deck and hit one.....

Frost is a powerful thing....

Minus 23'F out there right now.....I can hear the pops and bangs of different materials changing temperatures........

It's a good feeling to know I don't have to actually be out in that cold anymore....

It's been cold the last few days....last night I went out snowshoeing in the dark.....there was just enough moonlight to see a little and there was no wind....

It was a nice walk and I like it when the snow kind of squeaks when you walk on it......I like the cold.....won't be long before we get that wet, slushy snow that I hate....

We are awaiting a winter storm that is supposed to roll through here late Wed and all day Thursday...they are predicting snow falls measured in feet.....

Should be fun.....the 'ol yellow snowblower will get a workout.....the stuff I ordered for it's mods haven't arrived yet though....

Although there was no snow on the forecast for this morning, I couldn't see across my street...the weather people suck sometimes but that fresh snowfall of around 8 inches or so was great to go snowshoeing in......especially when the sun came out with the big blue skies.....

We had about 4" of snow at 7am today.
Trees and roads covered.
It has warmed to just above freezing now, and all the main roads are just wet.
Supposedly rain and freezing rain on the way
