Weather Where You Are

It was a wild night last night....we got a dump of 14 inches of snow so I spent lots of time behind the yellow snow monster....

We get weekly flyers thrown in our driveways and they did that before we got the snow.........I did 6 driveways and hit flyers in 3 of them so not bad......there was paper shrapnel all over the place....

Snowing heavy in the Sierras but here just rain. For about an hour earlier the sky really opened up, wind too. I could hear the rain hit the roof in waves sort of. I live on a slight incline and water was rushing down the road about 6” deep. Good drainage system thankfully.

That snow clearing is quite a work out........I was out clearing for quite a few hours yesterday....some of which was by shovel but even lugging around my heavy snowblower was work....

Then this morning I was out lugging more snow as the snow plow went by and dumped a good pile of knee deep snow on driveways......

But. it sure is a nice day today, the sun is shining and all the fresh fallen snow is putting on a show out there......

Middle of summer. 3 days ago, 33c.
Yesterday and today, cold snap, 9c up to 18c

Consistancy has left the building
Kind of sort of related....years ago I was out west, it was late March and was over 30'C out.....one of the civilians we worked with said it was supposed to snow the next day and we all just looked at him with blank faces and almost all at once told him he was joking as it was frickin' hot out....

The next day we woke up to 2 feet of snow and wind whipping everywhere....it was nuts.....I remember looking out in the parking lot and seeing mounds of snow where motorcycles and cars sat........and the UK troops who were on the base were walking around with their mouths open wondering what kind of hell they descended into......

2 days later it was all gone and back up in the 30's ('C).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now today here in my neck of the woods, it's snowing it's rear end off right now....looks like big yellow and I will be out blowing snow later....

Whew........a wild day yesterday......the snow was falling and the wind was whipping.......

I managed to get out to clear around 7 last night and got back in the house around 9 or so........there were a few 4 foot snow drifts out there...

I went out at 6 this morning and cleared the driveway again so the wife can get to work and in a few minutes I'm going out again as I have a couple driveways to get cleared.....

It's sunny but there's a strong, cold wind out there right now which makes blowing snow a real chore trying to keep the chute pointed with the wind......

It's a good workout though......

It snowed about 4" last Tuesday, then turned to freezing rain, then more freezing rain and rain on wednesday.
More rain on thursday, saturday, and yesterday morning.
High winds with big gusts for the last week.
This has creeks and rivers out of their banks, as the ground is saturated, and with the wind, as well as the weight of snow and ice on everything(which all melted by last thursday/friday), there are trees down everywhere, and they continue to fall.
We lost power for 18 hours, but some people are still without 6 days later.
My well water is cloudy, even with the filter system, and the filter on the kitchen sink and refridgerator.
I spent about an hour and a half with the chainsaw yesterday, cutting up several big broken branches from a tree in my front yard.
It's all still laying their too, as the ground is so saturated it's like walking in a swamp.
The high winds have really helped to dry things out quickly since the rain has stopped.
But, I have some stored water and can't complain, as alot of people had and have it alot worse.
A friend of mine lives a mile away, and somehow they were still trying to get her power back on last night, day 5 for her...and everyone around her has had power back for days now.
The forecast is for 3"-5" of snow for this wednesday, with some forecasts saying 8"-12", time will tell.
But...it's less than 3 weeks until the clocks go forward!
Spring is getting closer, only about 2 more months of cold weather...

That's nuts.........

Freezing rain is the worst......that and the kind of snow that looks and feels like sugar.....even a couple inches of that weighs a lot when you try to shovel it.....

I will take what we have here over what you have there any day.......hopefully our spring is slow and methodical instead of a big melt....we have about 4 foot of snow on the level right now and if that melted fast, it would be like what you are experiencing there now....

I’m not very clued up on military stuff, and some of the Aussie stuff is different to my homeland UK stuff. I still take a few pics on my travels as I do find it interesting and glad it’s been saved and used as a remembrance.

This is pretty local to me…

The tank is a German Leopard 1 model, similar to what our Canadian military used.....we now have the Leopard 2 A6,

The green gun under the sign is a British 17 pounder anti-tank howitzer and the larger fixed artillery piece is an anti-air unit, the green gun by itself behind your nice motorcycle is most likely a British 18 pounder

Had to look up the aircraft...it's a British Canberra bomber...

Having these monuments is an important part of remembrance for sure......

We have a lot of RSL social clubs here.
(THE RETURNED & SERVICES LEAGUE OF AUSTRALIA)
Based around and supporting military folk but open to anyone.
My wife and I are both members as many folk here are, even if they have no connection to the services.
Very happy to support them and they are a great place to socialise and the get a good meal.

Quite a few of the pics I took are outside the RSL clubs. Ex military equipment makes a good tribute and feature piece.
