Week 2 of kitchen updates

Make sure you have lots of patience on hand when you do the venting from the microwave. Also good to have some scrap pieces of lumber, phone books, whatever to get the heavy sucker close to the finished location. Get some flexible metal ducting in the right size and some of the high tech duct tape ( looks like chrome on a roll) on hand. That way you can be off a bit with the connections and not use up your entire vocabulary of cuss words.

how long of an area do you have where it transitions from carpet to laminate? I took a 1x4 piece of red oak and worked it down similar to the cheaper pieces of trim they sell at lowe's and home depot, stained it to match the rest of my trim then predrilled the top so that the screws sat flush and screwed it down. Took some time and precision measuring so that if fit right but it worked out great and looks exceptional.
it was a 52" opening.. they had a transition from the Berber to the crap vinyl that was down and so there was a "roll" where they tuck the carpet under.. (never did carpet so had no idea how it was fastened down)..

I peeled up the carpet at the transition, pulled out the old nail strip with the Z strip and put down a straight nail strip. Then put a regular transition strip in (came out just fine thankfully)..

I wish spring was here, this learning "Home Improvement" thing is not near so much fun as wearing out tires on the bike...

oh great there is not an existing duct pipe there... the dorks hung a hood that went no where (not even an exhaust vent of any kind, the fan was just there)..

The microwave has the hood built in and is "supposed" to work on an open or closed system.. I would REALLY RATHER it blew stuff out of the house.. now I gotta learn how to do that... NOW how is the best way to vent this and what kind of special "outlet" do I need..

Ventless system Randy. I have one also.

Any color going on the walls? Time to paint is now.

she is working on the colors now.. I still have to figure out the pattern for the travertine on the backsplash.. (probably a diagonal with the rain forest marble inlays)

Tumbled 4" tiles:

I vented mine outside - got tired of recirculating the smoke and the smell throughout the house! Works great! I just purchased standard HVAC fittings at Home Depot and Lowes.

We looked at Marble/Granite tops but decided against it for two reasons. One, you have to treat the tops yearly and two, the cost versus home value at time of resale.

We went with the LG brand top. The "bull nose" edges were included in the price and the one piece sink was free.

That looks great Randy, need a job,LOL Be extra careful when cutting veined marble on the wetsaw as it has a habit of almost falling apart in your hands after making a cut, the veins are a weak point in the stone. I'm sure as expensive as that type is you don't have alot of extras:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I use to be in the cabinet/counter-top business when my family owned the business. Looking good!

Ok Randy, how about some more pics? I would like to see the transition piece and the "counter top lady".

so this is an "off the shelf" mod? this one makes me nervous but I HATE having a recirc system.. seems like a waste of good air..

any hints on how to make it easier or better other than just going slow? like which way to cut first? or maybe a backing of some kind? I have been practicing on the Travertine diagonal cuts up to this point..
