... Humpty Dumpty had a great fall!
Yeah, I totally ate the pavement today/this morning... and right on Sunset Blvd. on the strip during the morning rush hour! I am not feeling good at the moment. But, yes, I am fine... just bruises and some road rash (pics will follow)... but the story is a good one!
Right in front of the Roxy on Sunset as I was between cars this white Lexus decides to pull right in front of me... I had no place to go... so I ended up braking hard and swerved right... sliding down hard on my right side! The bike just gave way and went down... and I slid into the bumper of this Suburban that was in the right lane... and the Lexus did not do anything but drive away! In the end, I was face to face with the back end of the Suburban... and hit it pretty hard.
I was dazed, needless to say...
Some guys helped me out to push the bike off to the side as I collected myself and checked out the damage to my bike. It's not so bad, really... just cosmetic damage (but definitely over $1,200 worth and it also has a nice hole in the lower fairing)...
Anyway, I called my insurance and also called my parents in AL to let them know that I went down. It should have ended right there... I should have just been able to take the bike back home, but... oh no! This chick driving that Suburban had to make me call the police even though her car had NO damage at all! ZERO! Even though my head/helmet went right into the rear bumper of the Suburban, there was no damage to her car at all. I kept asking her if her car had damage and she said 'no'. Still, she wanted me to contact the police, so I did. I seriously think this chick might try to sue me or something to say I injured her! AND THAT WOULD BE A BUNCH OF BS!!! So... This nice cop showed up and I told him what happened with that Lexus, and it was all cool.... so I thought! He INSISTED that I go the hospital! Yes... not even kidding! He looked at my head and thought I had some sort of head injury. I felt fine! I told him that! Still, the paramedics came and they actually stuck me on a stretcher with a neck brace...
I ended up getting stuck at Cedar Sinai hospital all morning long... and they even made me get my head x-rayed. I told them I felt fine, but they would not release me until they ran all the tests just becasue my head slammed into the bumper of the Suburban. When the doctors were trying to examine my whole body I heard somebody say "strip him down"... and I said "no, I'm fine". I told them I can move my legs and arms and I just had some very sore limbs... that's it... with some nice road rash. I was lucky enough that I got to skip the full body exploration...
Anyway, finally they finished the tests and I had to grab a taxi back over to the Roxy where my bike was. I even called the cop, who gave me his card, just to be sure it was still there. It was. I rode it home.... and here I am...
My body is aching and my arms are all scratched up... but I'll live... and the bike will live. The Hayabusa actually survived with just flesh wounds (me, too). The only thing I need to seriously attend to is the windscreen. It got dislocated on the right side so I need to replace that main bolt that holds it in place. I guess the bolt got knocked out in the crash.
So... I will be unable to ride tomorrow in the SoCal ride with some of you. I'm sorry. I was looking forward to it! I'm just way too sore and the bike is out of comission until I can fix the windscreen.
I guess I can say that I've actually wrecked a motorcycle... and it's an honor I'd rather just give up! I hope to never go down again... because it hurts. Seriously!
Here's my right arm... ouch!
