What Did You Do To Your Busa, Today?

Re-installed my shock that @mabupa was kind enough to service for me for little more than the cost of shock fluid and nitrogen charge. It was due. Thanks Miguel!

Yesterday...
Swapped out AGM battery for Lithium (Scorpion Stinger). Chose this make/model randomly, but based on this forum thread.
As this bike is new to me, had no idea what state prev batt was in. It had no starting probs.
The bike is ridden 1 to 7 days/week, variable, but min once/wk.
This swap is a test of sorts, as I will treat the Li batt just like an AGM in terms of maint, which means very little. Interested in seeing just how much maint the Li will require. I will not be trickle-charging the Li batt, assuming current usage will provide sufficient system recharge, but that's the point of the test (As you all know, a healthy AGM can go days/weeks in between starts).

Not much tech data to share here.
  • The new Li had same dimensions as AGM: exact fit under the seat.
  • ~350 CCA
  • AGM batt: ~12 lbs. Li batt: ~2lbs
  • Charged the Li prior to install
    • Instructs say batt is shipped at 30% charge
    • About 6 hrs to bring Li batt to full charge
    • 12-hour retention test (a function of the charger)
  • Total price Li batt + charger: $202, shipped

Your going to be waiting a long time before a charge is needed.

Hahahahahahaha
Hi Mr Toad. I was thinking about you motor. I like big bore but the busa motor does not. There is little room for O Rings to seal compression. My motor builder likes stroke. he also is very good at what he does. he has many times world champ. He has raced against Top Fuel HDs with his Gas suzuki and won. So I will run it by him with what you want. I will also talk to DME and see what they think too. So I need to know what you want to do. Also need to get you parts to you as cheep as we can. Please PM me OK.

Started bike up to check for leaks after putting other engine in, had seapage around oil pan , tightened those up they were not at 7ft pounds and took care then noticed coolant dripping from water pump so went ahead and ordered new gasket , always something, doesnt help that its cold as heck here in ky and having to work in my tent lol

I’m slowly working on upgrading the rear shock, but package delivery speed around this time of the year sucks!! Waiting on the needle to get the nitrogen out and the actual gold valve kit.View attachment 1589817

Miguel I am going to do this rear shock overhaul as you did. Thanks to Lodi will be going from Gen1 to 2 change the oil to 7wt, gold valve kit, heavier spring, shrader valve not sure what that other bolt is called or for guess I am taking the plunge. Any hints or idea of price is apprectiated.

Here is a pic of my shopping cart when I ordered all I needed. I would stick to racetech’s oil and spring weight recommendations.

Been spending a lot of time in the garage with the busa half naked. Parts have started to trickle in for my color change mission. It sure has been a mission :banghead: !! From seller not being honest and having to return parts, to companies forgetting about my orders and leaving them on standby, it’s been a bit of a chanllenge. I’m slowly making progress and can’t wait to see this thing together. This 2009 metallic gray is gorgeous and I am, as excited as, if I was getting a new busa. I sent race ready a set of dash panels to custom paint to match the busa’s new clothes, just like the matching set William painted for my pearl white fairings.
