What did you do to your other motorcycle today ?

A key surround for a 2008 B-King.

Many years ago a numb nut “Suzuki Mechanic” broke it during one of its early services (you need to turn them before lifting) and the sneaky f#ck glued it back on. I’ve continued to do the same since I found out as Suzuki Australia show No Stock or Not Available.

Trying to put a few things right on the bikes I suffered the price and got one sent over from Revzilla in the USA.

Funnily enough those parts are available locally for $60 or so.

I hate grubby mechanics!

Australia is a pretty small market. I order stuff from the UK, US etc regularly. I get Renthal bars delivered to my door faster and cheaper from the UK than using the imported over the border in the next state.

There is a little art to removing the key surround, and removing / refitting the side pods (slide on / velcro) etc that’s not like other bikes. I’m pretty sure some of shops spanner-monkeys hadn’t seen one before and assumed it was a naked Busa, never having removed the panels.

I find it interesting how Australia kept a lot of British sayings and mannerisms and we Canadians didn't...

It must be the American influence on us that made the difference..

For instance we say wrench and not spanner....

This bike does have it's quirks... I just tell my girlfriend that it's like a grownup's Lego set. She got a laugh out of it.

I’d be guessing there’d be quite a few differences in what is described as tools ..
although we do call them a ‘torque wrench’.. but without the ‘torque’ bit, called a 1/2” ratchet drive

Im English living in Australia.
Australia is still strongly English based from its migrants to its monarch.

However… It took me a while but although either can understand the other there’s countless different terms…

Servo instead of Petrol Station / Garage,
Ute’s not pick up’s,
Rego not road tax,
Footy not Rugby.
Soccer not Football.
12 gauge not 12 bore.
Lollies not Sweets,
Snags not sausages.
runners not trainers (sports shoes)
Chooks not hens.
Chips not Crisps.

Just little things but lots of them.

I got the bike with 300 miles on it. This was likely the setup team putting their consumer socket on the stem nut as part of the check list. $35 nut, + washer + shipping = around $50 mistake It is astounding how few of the people actually in the industry are qualified to touch a sport bike.

Your glue story is dreadful.

I bought a crashed GSX1400 awhile back. It wasn’t listed on any insurance register so no dramas in repairing it and getting it registered, I had spare bars, mirrors, headlamp, indicators so had it going very cheaply with odd mismatched parts.

Didn’t have any clocks. Mrs treated me to a set of aftermarket KOSO clocks.

Bike needed a cam chain, at the time I was flat out at work and earning OK so I thought I’d pay the dealer to do it.

What the dealer didn’t know was the KOSO clocks remembered the highest speed, revs, remap etc etc since the last trip counter reset. I reset the trip counter when I dropped the bike off.

When I collected it I asked did they test ride it. Workshop manager said Yes, just around the block.

I hit the buttons and brought up the speed and rev’s from the memory on their test ride… I said Yeah, they sure did! BIG numbers! (Bike had a full system, PAIR blanks, Dyno mapped Powercommander, filter etc etc, it went real well)

His jaw dropped…. He was very quiet for a minute until I burst out laughing.

I remember being in Australia training with the military that we would often ask "what was that?" when they were giving briefings as we didn't understand the lingo....and being on the radios was a whole other adventure...we almost needed a translator...

But we did the same thing while training in the UK....

Of course when we trained with the French from France, they asked our French people to speak English as they couldn't understand them...I got a good chuckle out of this because our French guys thought they were all that and a bag of chips...

What I did to my other motorcycle? Hmm...I bought it? :D :D Now I'm sitting in the garage trying to explain to my wife how that could have happened. If she threatened to emasculate me, I should buy something expensive in the motorcycle sector again in the next few years. -.- But guys.....8000 kilometers on the display, one owner so far, never seen a drop of rain.... I didn't have the heart to say no, especially since it's my father's bike, who can no longer drive after a serious bypass operation and a pacemaker. So if you don't hear from me in the next few days, I really liked you guys and the heap of dirt in the garden, I'm probably lying underneath :D :D

Quite the machine.....

A sad reason to acquire it though.....I'm sure it would have been fun to ride with your dad..

Now I'm sitting in the garage trying to explain to my wife how that could have happened.
When I bought my H2 SX SE I explained to my wife it was my last big buy.

Then it went, and I bought the Gen-3 Busa, definitely my last bike.

Then I bought a Gen-2.

I think she gave up after I went out to buy a lawn mower and came home with a Massey Ferguson 135 tractor and and slasher.

As she works and I don’t I try not to push my luck too far !

Yes, in fact it bothers him a lot. He didn't drive very much anymore, maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but that was always something special for him. But now he definitely can't do that anymore. That was also a reason to buy the bike, because it stays in the family and he can go into my garage at any time and sit in front of it with a beer (non-alcoholic from now on, of course ;) ). But well, I don't think my wife will accept that argument... I've already hidden the shovels so that she doesn't dig a hole in the garden! lol

Your dad must quite a man to ride a bike like that in the first place....

I'm sure he will be visiting...but not you...his bike....

That is one hell of a cool bike with the nice black frame. Your dad had a good taste. Well done that is stays in the family.
I know a guy who’s got the SP version and is 76 of age… How cool is that… I sign for that.
Good luck with it.
