What kind of oil???

I use amzoil......I have used other but after the first change at 600 miles the amzoil really loosened everything up. Gearbox went from showroom new to nice and quiet and smooth.......I'm not going to use anything else.

Leaving syn in for more than 3725miles because the oil won't loose viscosity doesn't do it for me.

I change the oil because its dirty.  I change the filter because its dirty.
Here's something I'm a little curious about.......... let's say you only do 1000 miles a year........... how many of you change your oil on a time basis rather than mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By this I mean, if you were doing 1000 miles a year.......... would you wait three years before you'd change the oil??

The reason I ask this is because I was talking to someone yesterday........ who has owned their bike 2 years........ and has never changed the oil because he only has 1400 miles up on it...........

I myself would change it at least once a year regardless of how many miles I've gone either way....

Ok here we go, This is my car experience talking.

Change your oil when YOU think it's done. If it looks dirty, it's dirty. Syn or not!

Now as for us "time based" people. HELL YES I'll change the oil. The most damaging thing in oil is contamination, more so specifically in motorcycles. IF I know I won't be ridding the bikre for more then a week or 2, YES I change the oil. You need to get all the crap that builds up in the oil, out. Keep it from sitting and doing it's nasty damage.

This is doubly true for dino oils. Its the sulphur in the oil that leads to problems, it eats the metal bits. Change your oil before you store it. What I do is change the oil/filter with a cheap dino oil prior to storage, use that oil to warm up the bike come spring time then swap it out (filter as well) with the normal oil.
My katana loved to run on Motol3000+, I used 5100 a couple times but didn't find it was worth the exta bucks.
