Who Rode Today?

I noted this Gold Wing doesn't have the chrome anchor chain.....I thought all those big boats came with one...

I got in a 196 mile loop on my new 82 Honda today. Bedded in some new HH pads up front and enjoyed gazing at my new gauges. Saw three large groups of Harley riders, 30-40+ all stopped, some getting gas. One was a fully patched black leather vest wearing ‘club’. The hiway patrol was out in force, many more than I ever see. I had two saves from my V1. The bike is running great but I’d like a little more ‘snap’ to the throttle. It’s a five speed so the gears are spaced kinda tall. Down the line I might swap in some cams from a 79 and maybe a full Dyna ignition like I had on my 79 but for now, a sprocket change may help. It’s been awhile so help me out here. I’d prefer to leave the counter sprocket alone so would adding 1-2 teeth to the rear add enough snap for me w/o adding too many revs? At 70 I’m turning 4,200 revs and 5,000 at 80. Redline is just under 10,000. Also, is the rule to add a chain link for every added tooth? It’s a 530 chain. Whaddya say?

I went up 2 teeth in the rear on my gen 1. Sucks the back wheel in about a half an inch which you’ll see when you adjust the chain. Shortens the wheelbase a bit so it should theoretically be more wheelie prone.

Add 2 teeth to the rear, leave the chain, there should be enough adjustment range for that without any problems.
For revs, consider that a +3 rear on a Busa ups the rpms by only 600, so +2 isn't bad at all.

Thanks, I can live with that. I want it to be a touring rig but I still want some zip. Droning across vast expanses of straight roads lower revs would be best but the six is so smooth that adding a few revs shouldn’t be a bother except at the gas pump. Would two teeth be like going from a 3.23 to a 3.73 in a car’s differential? Something similar?

Hi. My final drive will be 1.70.

I've been avoiding riding this weekend as here it is a long weekend and every idiot that can hold a steering wheel is out and about......

And that not only attracts stupid drivers but also lots of police presence....

Besides, I have enough grass to cut to keep me busy all weekend.

But I did give it a good detailing and wax....

Going from 18/43 stock on a Gen2 to 18/46 only changes the gearing from
2.39 to 2.56 final drive, but it Does feel like taking a car from 3.23 to 3.73(which I've done a few times too) so that is a good comparison.
I think that having basically double the redline of a car engine helps that too though.

I'm also considering the Ozarks this coming week. Never rode it or stayed in them. Went through there once by car quite a few years ago. Saw Branson because I had to pass through there to get where I was going

Any suggested areas? How packed is it going to be?

Got in 98 miles on the Honda today. Heading north of a lil town called Mariposa there are some nice straights with dogleg type curves, still 100+ is easy thru there. I was doing about 80 when I saw two Harleys in my mirrors. Sooooo  I gassed it up to 100-110 and damn if they didn’t stay with me!:firing: We stopped at the top of hiway 49 and one of them shouted, man we were doing 105! Like it was the fastest he’d ever been.:D Surprisingly both riders had proper gear on. One of these pulled up in blue. Never seen one and never even heard of one. It’s huge! The owner said it’s just under 900 pounds.
Anyone know what it is?
