Who Rode Today?

There used to be a track I raced on that had a section called the "deer's leap" where you would get a front end lift going over it at speed and then had to get on the brakes hard for a right hand chicane......

We didn't have stabilizers in those days and the bike would give a head shake sometimes....it was kind of thrilling and scary at the same time...

I’d like to see MotoGP race on the old Daytona banked track. Suppose they’re going too fast for that bank these days? King Kenny had a get off there once doing 170 or so. The bikes now are going over 200 on every track. How fast would they hit coming off the banked section now?

Future MotoGP bikes might be able to do this as their top speeds will be much lower than they are now...

These days and earlier. Look what the two stroke 500s did over 20 years ago.

One can even look at the RZ/RG 500 street versions in the mid '80s that in street form could reach 150mph......crazy speeds for those days.....

Odd how Honda put out an NSR400 to compete against them.....instead of a 500.....

The sound and smell of a high performance 2 stroke was a special thing.....

I rode down to the city yesterday to grab a pair of pants, Bull-it cargo with the big side pockets. When I got back in the driveway I was reversing up and at one point twisted the bars with the front brake on and heard a weird click click sort of sound? just as the wheel began to move? I recently had the forks worked on and suspect the lower clamp bolts might be loose. I can't get to them though without pulling off that fairing piece under the dash. Can't imagine what else it would be?

You can remove the black plastic piece under the nose, it's just held in with push-pins.
Then easily reach the triple-clamp bolts from underneath.

A quick breakfast run to the next town and back.
A cloudy dull day but it was warm, the roads were dry, very little traffic and no cops.

I’m in denial and often joke with my wife, that despite being in my 60’s with a long growing list of health problems, that any ride I see 160kph (100mph) and a good wheelie means I’m not old!

Today…. I’m not old.

Gen-3 got a run into the city recently for a new front master. I still haven’t received a recall letter but the dealership knows my VIN and got the parts in anyway. Job done whilst I had a coffee and looked at the new bikes.

The B-Kings had a couple of runs recently, I take it out for a breakfast run occasionally, but I also took it to a local Coffee and Cars meet again. They are a great little club, everything in the mix from a WW2 truck, to a Farrari, to Hot Rods, a Model T, an Aussie Javlin and other old classics. Not many bikes turn up but I’m always made welcome. One guy has 3 x automatic CB750’s, another has a ‘99 Busa. Not a bad mix for a little rural town.

I got in a 189 mile loop thru five counties on the Honda today and finally saw a Hayabusa in the wild. Was a white Gen2 coming towards me in a corner. Rider was wearing a white Suzuki jacket. The Honda ran perfectly. Very few bikes out despite the good weather. Anyone else get out?
I rode my snow shovel around the driveway.....by looking at the forecast, it appears I will get to ride it for a few more days....

I have to get a yellow one....
