We don't call them braided beds but we do indeed..I've gone on a few with my CR250R and found very quickly it was not the right bike for that venture...Yep, can be quite scary at times too.
Do you have braided river beds in Canada?

Lucky for you your oil soaked rear tyre never let go . . .Further inspection revealed that I was to blame..... last fall I did a starter clutch in the bike after it decided to shear the bolts holding it to the flywheel. Seems that when I was putting it all back together, I neglected to seal the wiring exiting the inside of the case to the starter motor housing. Oil was splashing off of the starter gears, through the gaping hole, down the starter housing and out of the drain hole at the bottom. D'oh!

Guess I got so focussed on sealing the outer cover that the inner seal was missed. *sigh*
Luckily I had a perfect sized grommet in my stash and a bit of silicon later has it resealed. I hope. My next ride will tell the tale.
The lesson learned? Don't be an idiot.

the moral of the story is to check, re-check and check again for leaks after major surgery . . . .BEFORE you go riding .
Glad it worked out ok in the end.
Phewww!
Yes, that would have sucked for sure...getting parts for that bike wouldn't be easy either...Ironically, I ran the bike in the driveway twice after the fact, plus I rode it up and down my road once. I think it was finally reaching higher rpms that caused the oil to fling out.
In the end, only 600mLs of oil departed but yeah, the rear tire. Luckily I spotted the leak fairly quickly and immediately thought of the tire... I rode like a nOoB rider straight home, keeping the bike as near to upright as was possible.
I'd have cried all night if the Kat had gone down.... she's just so pretty!

Some body parts are still available new from Suzuki although the OEM gas tank is not.... I would definitely not want to have to find a new one. Yoshimura sells a gorgeous aluminum tank but it's over $3600 US... for a gas tank!

She's a happy Kat again though! No leaks, and finally ditching the crappy Shorai battery for a Yuasa (Busa-spec YT12A!) today means she doesn't struggle to start anymore. I can stop worrying about the bike eating another starter clutch like it did last fall thanks to the weak initial crank of the dry cell battery.

Got mine inspected today too5 hours of busa time. Even got her inspected. Funny but the first 30 minutes on the busa feels a little odd. After that it feels like home again. Pretty amazing bike and boy do I get a lot of questions!
Corbin for the BMW came today. I also got a SENA 50R in trade for the Sargent seat for the K16. Probably not the best deal but glad I don't have to ship it.

Every year. They check lights, signals, horn, tires. General stuff. They are supposed to check light adjustment but don't. They look at brake wear too. Costs $12USD.What gets checked at an inspection ? Is it yearly ?

PS: Thank God no emissions or we would have to remount the stock exhaust every year.
