Winglets

What do you think about adding winglets to your Hayabusa?

I personally like the idea but I can’t find any nice winglets.

The ones that I like are from the M1000RR and RSV4 2022.

Probably are not so hard to make.
I'm not a huge fan of winglets from an ecstatic perspective, I prefer what Kawasaki did with the integrated winglets on the ZX10. I also remember when RAM air first became a thing in racing on the ZX7, lots of people doubted the utility but there is utility even when you are just cruising around, like throttle response for example and I'm sure there is utility to winglets at slower speeds to.

Well, we have not been impressed with the winglets.
He was telling me about some freaky handling, which was strange...until I first experienced it.
They are Puig, and obviously to provide downforce, He liked the looks and wanted to try them.
We figured, quality company and a practical part, so why not?
Well, we've all experienced riding behind tractor trailers at highway speeds.
Of course there's alot of wind, depending on distance, and you can 'draft' and break through the wind, blah blah.
The first time(and every time) I was behind a big truck, things seem normal, but once you're within a certain distance(nothing precise, too many variables) something begins feeling strange.
It feels as if the truck is pulling a carpet, and you drive up and park on it like it were a trailer, and get slight side to side movement.
Then it happened(and I know this from countless wheelies and stoppies) the front gets light...only so is the back.
The bike is Literally lifting off of the road, and not just the front, the rear too!!
How? It feels exactly like what's happening; air is getting under Both tires, there is somehow lift from the wings(no, they cannot be installed upside down, lol).
Nah, doesn't seem possible.
As an old MX who's flown many a dirtbike, I know that feeling too.
This motorcycle gets airborn for moments at a time, I can feel it float and shift side to side, and then light contact, tires scuff(like setting the front down from a high speed wheelie, the instant when the tire touches the road again).
You are riding, a little wind buffeting, suddenly a floating feeling, suddenly a slight bite of road, some bar shimmy, and back to floating.
A very strange feeling.
Not something I'm overly concerned about, as it is controllable...but it also seems as all control could immediately be lost at any time.
Especially if you were at high speed, and came into turbulent air from a tractor trailer ahead.
This is the only circumstance that we have experienced this under(I didn't know wth he was trying to explain until I experienced it myself, lol).
Regardless, the moral of the story is...I think winglets need left to the manufacturers themselves, or someone that has wind tunnel testing capabilities, because there Are issues with these aftermarket winglets.
An inexperienced rider could easily panic and crash, or all control could go away, possibly putting down an experienced rider.
I only ride the highway on the 1k on rare occasion(on the way to twisties), but he roll races and does more straight aways, and says they are coming off, and I'm ok with that.
Just my 2 cents on our experiences with them(whatever that's worth).

If I owned that bike they'd be the first thing I'd be taking off....sounds like they are de-stabilizing the aero profile to the point of being dangerous...

Absoloutely.
I havn't been over 140 with them on, clean air, no traffic, no problems.
But, it seems that it could get you randomly in normal traffic too.

@sixpack577 I forgot you had a newer gsxr! Better sell it to me that's a beautiful bike!

lol, kind of...it might as well be

3D printed winglets skinned in carbon... This could be a future project down the road once I get the bike scanned in.

If you get the printed I can use them as a plug and make a mold and pure carbon pieces . I used to do the infusion at a shop that made a bunch of raptor parts etc and do small stuff out of my garage with a few friends. Currently working on the fender vents and removing the fins to just have a pure carbon open vent in the side.

i sure hope this winglet theme doesn’t turn into a 90s import tuner trend like when everyone was trying to use a bigger wing…

TTS made this winglet in da house

I still don't see their value unless they've been extensively wind tested...the gen 3 is the most aerodynamic bike to begin with and messing with that is kind of scary...

I only see a visual benefit, which those don't accomplish in my book. I really want to believe they're so exaggerated looking that they are fully functional, but who knows.

Wow, 25 years of the R1...and the Busa isn't far off.
Myself and many of us remember the first one, I was 20.
...measuring time by motorcycles, lmao!
I remember the first R1, the blue and white was my favorite although my colleague had a red and white one which was stolen in the first week of ownership...he was at his girlfriend's house and had it locked with a Python lock and jammed in behind her car...they still got it somehow.

I was older than 20....
