2021 Pashnit Touring on a Hayabusa

The Ventura Rack I had on my previous Hayabusa was perfect for carrying extra fuel, but can't put a top case on a Ventura Rack. Here I am on one of the Iron Butt rides I did, 1667 miles in 36 hours. The canisters got used on tours quite a bit.

9-miles from the fuel stop: Remember that rule about always fill up before setting off on a big ride, yeah, that one.

I would love to carry extra fuel for just this sort of occasion, but no place to put my MSR Fuel Canisters on this Givi setup. Can't put them inside the top case as fumes escape no matter how well sealed.

Next best thing is a hand-crank siphon hose. The cheap ones from your local auto-parts store never work, but this one did quite well. And the 5.5 gallon tank on the Hayabusa is good for over 200-mile range. Transfer a bit of fuel and on our merry way.

Man that is some hot country this time of year. And bugs? It’s nearly 100 around here and no bugs desperate enough to commit suicide. My ride a couple days ago was nearly 200 miles from 2300’ to over 7000’ and still almost no bugs. They're awfully hard to clean out of a mesh jacket. Where did you guys overnight up there?

Bugs are in the Central Valley at dawn, all farmland and orchards, that was riding up in the early morning at 4am to meet the group. To see our first night, you gotta scroll down. ;)

What to do on a hot day in Northern California?

Head for Burney Falls, a massive waterfall you have to see to believe - but first we gotta get in. Felt like being at the DMV.

Guys didn't seem to mind

What I love about Burney Falls is the water is shooting out of the face of the rock - 100 million gallons worth. Nothing quite like it anywhere

Yes, the water is coming right out of the ground.

As you walk down to the water, the temps drop from 90 to 70.

People give you a sense of scale.

I would have loved to stay here at the falls, love the cool temps, and nothing quite like this particular waterfall anywhere.

Nearby is the Cassel Sculpture garden. A local concrete business made all these. Here's the address in case you want to check it out.

Area we're in is all volcanic in origin, so takes a bit of homework to find some fun twisties. No longer in the Sierra Range and transitioning into the Cascade Range

Hiding in the shade. Getting hot out. 90+

May remember this place from the last tour group I brought here, coincidently in the same region of NorCal

It's getting hot out here

So we did the waterfall which was awesome, what else when it's 99 out.

How about an ice cave? Yes, a cave. With ice in it.

First we got to get there, and yes, that's 14,000 ft Mt Shasta.

This is the road to Glass Mountain & Lava Beds National Monument

- a mountain of glass, obsidian that is

We found it - the Jot Dean Ice Cave. Located about 20 miles north of Highway 89.

It's actually a lava tube that's right beside the road. Walk 50 feet off the road and there it is.

Remember, this is the mystery tour. The guys have no idea where they're going, and a month before the ride, I asked them all to bring flashlights. They were wondering what the hell is he up to now?

Climb down into this huge hole in the ground - Temps drop from 95 to just above freezing - in 50 feet. It's crazy.

I sometimes get asked, How do you find this stuff?!

You would never know this is even out here. A lot of homework and research, I suppose. But then again, you hired a guide.

Holy Moly, there's ice everywhere!

Not sure why this is so cool, but it's so cool!
