What makes this particular tour unique is I've arranged to have our lodging place to provide a catered dinner for the group.

Great group of riders, The Coast Range Tour always sells out, I've been offering it for almost 10 years, and it's a real favorite with our regulars. Offered again in 2023, it sells out many months in advance.

The Pacific Motorcycle Tour

Creating an all-new organized motorcycle tour and having it run perfectly the first time out can be a challenge. It takes a few tries (ie years) to get it just right. The timing, the pace, the choice of roads, the mileage, the stops along the way. The first run of a new tour often needs a little tweak here and there. The summers here in California are hot, 95-100 degree days are the norm. And, I had this idea a year ago, what if we could spend the entire tour along the Pacific Ocean where the temps are ideal. I sit down with the mapping program, spend a considerable amount of time working out all the math first.

A couple of things worked to our advantage for the second running of this tour. We had perfect riding weather, zero fog, and blue skies above. The ocean changes color throughout the day, and today it was the deepest blue, pool table flat, and extended off into the horizon at every turn.

I often wonder what makes these motorcycle tours so fun, and why riders do them over and over again. The majority of our tour participants on every tour are alumni, having done multiple tours and counting. The answer always circles back to the same thing. Being together. During Covid, it likely was the first time we’ve ever been told we couldn’t be together.

Remember Bruce? These tours are three weeks apart. He signed up for back-to-back rides.

Bruce is a dual sport rider in his 70s, still riding as much as he can. He also likes to do off-road tours up in the Sierra Nevada.

Plus those Ducati guys keep showing up.

These Hypers are like dirt bikes with 1000cc motors. Lookit the size of those fork tubes.

Tom signed up for every tour I offered this season. Tom is based in SoCal and I think these tours are his primary hobby. He has to ride 4-8 hours to reach the start point of every tour, which are scattered all over the state.

Andrew lives in Texas, but keeps a bike in the Bay Area, then commutes back and forth from TX to ride in CA with his two brothers who still live here in CA.

This road 20 years ago was goaty, they've completely repaved it. Super fun & tight twisties.

King Mountain Rd is short, about 5 miles, but twisty and great fun!
