The 2021 Caldor Fire was unusual as it was only the second fire to reach the crest of the Sierra Range and start to burn down the other side towards South Lake Tahoe.

20,000 people were told to evacuate South Lake Tahoe, but the wildfire was stopped at the very edge of Lake Tahoe.

The 2021 Caldor Fire burned mostly in unpopulated national forest land, it was so big, it also burned westward towards populated areas and was stopped at the edge of Pollock Pines. My brother lives further up into the Sierra Foothills and it burned to within 2 miles of their 20 acres. It was scary. In the end, it burned over 200,000 acres, about 347 square miles.

We can't climb any higher in elevation as the passes are still under snow, so it's back down to lower elevations zigzagging our way south

Sly Park Reservoir, or better known as Jenkinson Lake. Completely full.

Back onto the narrow single lane backroads.

Hale Rd near Fiddletown, barely one lane wide, but paved

I had recently learned of a local road that was repaved. Stuff like that gets bikers excited.
Add that it's a single lane road and minimal traffic made it even more alluring.

Years ago, I wrote an article about this ride, Jesus Maria Rd, it's rather goaty.

We showed up and the grapevine chatter was correct! Brand new super smooth, fast, twisty, single lane, lots of blind corners, it was delightful!

You would think this is the middle of nowhere, but occasionally we'd come up on a blind corner, and a pickup would be coming right at us charging right down the middle of the road. Increases the pucker factor for sure! We constantly harp on riding the proper lane position on roads like this.

The pics show the riders in a safe lane position as we head into these blind corners, some sharper than others.
