Afghanistan....

I was just thinking it may not be too much longer until the Taliban slam the door shut and not allow many more people to be extracted......I'm actually surprised they are allowing this to continue, it's not like them to do so.

The few troops controlling the air field are vulnerable and easy picking if they chose to attack them....and the aircraft are vulnerable to attack while they approach and leave the airfield...

I can't see how any other administration could have done it differently, the ANA collapse was quick and thorough.....all plans can and will fail. There will be all kinds of "bravado" saying "I'd have done this or that" but unless that person or administration is in the hot seat, we'll never know.

The military elements who were pulled out were not war fighters, they were mostly air elements and would have been extremely vulnerable if they were left there...

The ANA relied heavily on the coalition to maintain their aircraft, there were air crew and techs but they all walked away...and the supply system fell apart when those people walked away as well...
So sad. Sad state of events.

One has to ask the question though, if a force of 300,000 far superiorly armed men simply gave up against an enemy of 70,000, what was actually going on over there. It simply means either all four administrations had no idea what they were doing, or they knew that they were backing a puppeteer government as well as military and just lied to the American public for political gain.

I believe the Washington Post supports the latter. That could be the reason why the Trump administration started talking with the Taliban.

Well, I don't disagree with you there. I'm pretty sure we knew they didn't have 300K Afghans who wouldn't fight but I think they were shocked that all 300K gave in so quickly, without even a shot in most cases. I really think we thought (reasonably) Afghanistan would fall to the Taliban but we had more time. I think Biden knew that as soon as they started flying people out they were going to be modded by Afghans (many of whom just want to get out because they just don't want to live in a stone-aged Taliban-run country).

Look now and nearly 30K people have been flown out in 2 weeks. That means they can probably make the deadline and probably went about this the only way possible given the collapsing timetable. Besides, the Taliban have been remarkably restrained - it's the Afghan mob that made this a disaster.

Note also that these one-sided conflicts are a great way to develop and test weapons systems and to get troops combat experience. So the MIC probably loves being perpetually fighting somewhere in the world. There was going to be a political price paid to whoever ended it at a stalemate. I'm betting Obama didn't do it because Hilary was not having it (complete speculation on my part). But being at the end of his second term, Obama would have been the guy to end it "clean".

I read tonight that Taliban will not agree to a time extension

this looks like to be getting ugly and quick

What!?
Those terrorist bastards!
They Won't negotiate???
lmao!

Again, I'm sure there are good people there...but these mofo's on that C17...F' em!
Count how many women and children you see...go ahead...I'll wait
One, 2 maybe? And that's just a guess based on black spots that may be head coverings.
What we have here are a couple single guys trying to escape...and a group of chicken sh*t cowards who ditched their women and children, sprinkle in a few terrorists for good measure, annnnnd....you've got yourself a feel good news story.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, the Afghan people want the western way of life....only they aren't willing to fight for it.....the people on that (and many others) will get the western way of life by running away from their homeland....

....and their families.
I'de die defending my wife and daughter, and under the circumstances awaiting, would rather they were killed with me than taken.
And No, not easier said than done, simply what a real man does naturally.
As said, probably a few single guys on that plane, with no family, no one they could help, and they said 'lets get outta here!'(I'de have done the same), but, as for the rest...I would've let the Taliban have them...cowards leaving their families, yeah, bring us Those people to the U.S., they 'deserve' it...my a** they do.
Plenty there do...but it ain't those guys.

Just how would you tell a ‘deserving’ soul from one that in your opinion shouldn’t go?

An interesting read for certain....

Even with reading that, nobody thought the ANA and ANP would dissolve so quickly....we sure spent a lot of time and effort training them. But, honestly any gains we made there were made by coalition troops and any progress made towards women's rights and basic life necessities were made by the same...

The Afghan "government" didn't seem to have an appetite to help or govern themselves. Once "big brother" wasn't there to prop them up, they fell over.

Either way it is a very sad development....
Hi. Did anyone think that the 300000 man army may have had a lot of ghosts in there we pay the 300000 men and some people in the government gets that money?????????????????

I think of all that I and everyone else endured over there to just have it go back to what it was before (or worse).

Some of my former colleagues and serving friends are at great odds with this whole situation...almost to the point many of them are suffering anxiety and wanting to go there themselves....
I would go in a heartbeat if American lives were in danger.
shame shame on those in charge.

I think the people in charge are doing the best they can...I personally am surprised they are allowed into the Kabul airport basically unmolested at all.....

If this were the Taliban of a few years ago, there'd be blown up aircraft on the tarmac as there are far few coalition soldiers to stop them.

Retired Navy SEAL’s post about Afghanistan, imagining he was president, goes viral

I don't have Instagram or any social media, this is just where I could find the link, hopefully it will play.

Is he wrong...no....is it plausible to do what he is suggesting....not without great loss of coalition and civilian lives...not all of what he is suggesting can be done from a distance, some of it will have to be conducted close up and personal...the Taliban won't just sit there, they will fight.

There was a time when no one knew who the SEALS were. They did it for their country and not for personal glory or fame and fortune. I am thankful for people like this guy who are willing to sacrifice so much to do our dirty work, but he needs to shut up.

A smart warror understands their situation and reacts accordingly. How do you challenge an accomplished urban warfare enemy when you must protect civilians clustered in a big, fat target? We need to be cool as long as we can and move as many people as possible before we threaten the Taliban.

This guy is taking the opportunity to talk smack and get a lot of hits because his tactics look strong but they will get a lot of the civilians and soldiers killed in the process.

I say just keep getting the people out as fast as possible. 21K got out just yesterday. If there are people left and the Talibon (or anyone) get in our way, then you rain hell down on them. Right now you play nice.

Lmao...you go tell Jocko that bs.
He is a Real American Hero, and we'll never know half the good he did.
He needs to "shut up" lmao...how about you realize he IS a Seal...and you Are Not...he knows a little more than you do on this subject.
Listen to his podcasts and you'll find out how he is...humble...and better yet...take no sh*t.
He's Not the Seal out there looking for fame and glory, he just tells it like it is.
He has the brains and connections to do whatever needs done...as he was/is the boots on the ground that do politicians dirty work and clean-up for them.
If you wanna dis' a Seal, try it on the hollywood ones...and good luck with that too.
Liberal nonsense
