Afghanistan....

Hi I wonder what would happen if we started to burn all there poppy fields?
Hi. Afghanistan make almost 90% of the worlds opium. I do not know whos great idea it was to let that go on. As if the USA does not have a drug problem. We also let out 5,000 of there fighters I guess we thought that they would take up basket weaving or knitting after we let them out.

Sorry to be selfish, the problems over there will greatly effect the U.S. but we have basically open borders here. For a nation that hates this place I live in and a open door to it. The future will tell of sleeper terrorist. Thats what I'm worried about

While we were there in force, we burnt their marijuana and poppy fields...what it did was turn the farmers to the Taliban as that was where the money from the fields went...once the farmer couldn't pay the Taliban, they came and took a daughter or son...

Now the farmer hates NATO and starts helping the Taliban...

All I can consider is the people needing to get out , and my son Tristan 82nd 3rd BCT is there now . Last time we heard from him was 40 hours ago . Non stop flight there . Asked if they were jumping in or landing . He said jumping was not off the table as airports condition was unknown.
Thankfully he has 4 years training in the Marines , but the Army Joes hes with are not up to speed . Very little training going on in the Army currently .
Here in Canada, the responsibility to evacuate embassies is the mission given to Spec Ops teams...

I am surprised the US isn't doing this as well

I’m not a NY Times fan, plus have to create an account to process that link.

I don’t know Arch, to me the link I posted was pretty simple and easy to accomplish.

It basically allowed drawing out troops based on conditions which the Taliban had to conform to. Following the agreement meant not to withdraw troops if it could not be done peacefully and handing over power according to the agreement would have meant our forces as well as our equipment and military technology would have been out without major incidents.

In short, the agreement meant we would only have withdrawn troops in a manner and speed allowing control in place. What is happening now sure is not the only choice we had.

The agreement was the difference between a controlled departure, rather than a chaotic departure chosen by the current administration.
We keep talking about agreements but with who? The reason the evacuation of Americans was not covered is that the Afghans were supposed to slow the Taliban. They simply walked away and gave them their weapons. It's crazy. I hear even the president booked up! Now there is no authority in the country other than the Taliban.

here are the signs we are F'd and this is going to be a war:

1. Americans held hostage
2. Planes leaving are fired on with shoulder-launched missiles
3. Taliban form a siege on American forces.

I will just say that while I am always concerned for our service men and women after seeing some of the videos this morning I am thankful for our troops and what they are going through right now. I saw the AP video of the C-17 with folks hanging all over it while it was moving down the tarmac, that is not a normal site anywhere and it shows the confusion and how out of control things are. I don't want to touch the why things are crazy just that we have US service members going into harms way in extreme situations to try and make it better.

To the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters of these service members my prayers go out to you watching your family members serve in this way.. There is a lot of danger right now and most of the world appreciates what they are doing...

Cap...

Yeah, that C-17 thing was crazy. Those big engines running with people and FOD looming all around. Soldiers have got to control the crowd or one of those planes is going to lose an engine taking off.

I saw a video with 3 fellas that fell off that plane after it took off... What really concerns me is the risk, someone chunking something into an engine etc... Those pilots are making decisions in circumstances I bet they never trained or planned for.
