It could just as easily and accurately mean that lots of her fans were emboldened and her potential fans turned towards her. I’m not any particular fan of hers, have none of her music but she simply cannot be compared to ‘the rest of them”.
What I can't believe are a bunch of seniors (and a couple younger people) are even discussing this person......

I've had to endure her music through my grand daughters who all have big blue pleading eyes when they ask grandpa to play a certain song of hers....for them I'm a softy......
I understand the politics part. She probably has a lot of gays friends as I do, and she has influence, which I don’t. Nothing sad about it.

I wouldn’t really care. I don’t care much about celebrities’ politics. Issues like people denouncing homosexuality I do care about. It’s akin to racism in my opinion.
My wife and I were talking about celebrities and their ability to use their fame to influence others...she and I agreed that when they cross the line when it comes to politics or other agendas they lose something...for instance a person of whom makes good movies and entertains us, then gets into the fray regarding social issues or politics makes us want to stop watching anything they are in....
........and we aren't alone, lots of people think like this and for some reason I think these celebrities know this but can't help themselves....
Much like Trump.....he knows he is pissing people off but just can't help himself....like I said far too many times already...if Trump would have just done what he said he was going to do and stay off social media spouting off, he would have got another term.......

Pretty one sided Bee. What about the other side, those who like and appreciate what the celebrity said? Their numbers could equal or surpass the ‘other side’ as easily as not. Celebs have an opinion just like everyone else. Doesn’t bother me in the least if they use their celebrity to express their opinion. I may be dismayed in finding out a favorite actor has political beliefs that are opposite of mine but I wouldn’t stop watching their movies. They’re just celebrities. Why give them so much power? They don’t rate it.
I look at it differently, aren’t you surprised? Lol. Celebrities are human beings, with little privacy and a head full of opinions like anyone else. Can’t blame them for expressing themselves. Look at us, this section of the forum, littered with opinions. If anyone is swayed by a celebrity’s opinion, or stops respecting that celebrity’s talent because of it, that’s on them. I just look at it like one more person’s opinion, because that’s all it is.

I look at it as celebrities are the ambassadors to their respective professions (singers/actors/athletes, etc) and as such they have a responsibility to remain neutral and inclusive.
This is similar to when I was in uniform.....what would my troops and superiors think if I was using my position and rank to spout off my political or other beliefs...I had to remain stoic for the greater good even if that meant I had to shut my cake-hole at times.
When athletes take knees during the national anthem and such, fans didn't pay big money to be privy to their political views, they paid that money to watch them play their sport. Same goes for all the other celebrities.

In most cases they only have celebrity status because of a fan base.....why shouldn't a celebrity remain neutral for their base?
Why would they want to piss off anyone who is a paying fan is the real question? These celebrities are promoting their particular brand and as soon as they start voicing some political or ideology rhetoric, they are no longer inclusive to all....
Before retirement, expressing my political views at work, social media and even close friends who may spread my views was a no no. Would have been a bad career move, even perhaps getting fired.
Makes total sense to me....
I think celebrities should be following that principle as well....
