Couple questions..

How do you get this retainer open?

This part, where the hard line and the rubber line connect, is in rough shape from road salt (previous owner was in Georgia). Do I need to try to clean this up or is the new line kit going to replace all this?

That line gets replaced.
You have to unbolt the fender or remove the wheel to get the plastic clip out, that is holding the brake line over the fender.
Then you can access the bottom of that push clip, squeeze it together, and it pops right out.

Small hands have a few benifits, as well as years of aircraft maintenance where's there's never enough room. I was able to get it off.
