EV vehicles

I was speaking to a person who is an engineer with our hydro utility company and he was saying there would have to be significant upgrades to the delivery system in order to meet the demand EV would bring......he was saying the size of the current lines are too small to carry the load.

He mentioned the real issue would be upgrading lines in the major cities as there would have to be a lot of digging as many lines are buried....

He spoke on our own area and said there is enough power coming to the region due to closed factories but the distribution grid isn't robust enough...
That's not even a part of the shortage that manufacturing of EVs create. You bring up another factor of shortage in upgrading the grid.

An EV uses 3-5 times more copper than an ICE. There isn't enough copper mined nor discovered to cover it.

I thought it was interesting that on the day the election was sure, the Rivian stock price fell into single digits. Very bad news since if it were to stay there the company would be de listed. Now this is the second biggest EV maker in the states, and the reaction was to be expected since Trump has vowed to cut all subsidies. The tesla share price on the other hand went up, fully explained by the fact that investors don't care about such things as subsidies, all they care about is the brand, ie. "Musk" who is slated to be the actual hatched man heading DOGE, the Dept of government efficiency. It's a circus alright

You guys must get with the program!!!

My electrical supplier encourages me and even gives me a credit for an EV charger.

If the natural resources aren't there, they aren't there.....there's no program to get with...it's a know fact that our electrical grid as it stands now won't support main stream EV and will need to be completely (and expensively) overhauled......

Not only are natural resources in the form of copper getting far more expensive, but the laborers to do such work are not easily obtained.

.....and show us a picture of your personal EV.......I say this because you have already stated that you won't buy one at this stage of life.......and nobody can blame you for that.

I think it will be a slow process, probably not even in my time here on earth, but some time in the future, ICE will become a collector's item.

Once the solid state battery is in mass production, the world will start adapting, may take several years though.

Right now, where I live, solar with batteries at the house, or without batteries, is not a beneficial financial investment. For 15,000 miles plus a year, EV is a good investment, but below that mileage it becomes hard to justify financially. So I am out.

I would agree with that......

All the "green" efforts to produce energy all come with their dark sides...

Hydro electric disrupts the natural path fish and other aquatic species use for reproduction and creates huge flood plans for their reservoirs.

Wind turbines have been linked to a certain vibration in water that is affecting aquatic life and has been linked to whale deaths....and land based turbines kill millions and millions of birds....so much so there is a market for companies to clean up all the dead carcasses

Solar is ok as long as there is sun and no hail.....

Nuclear has spent fuel to store somewhere and heavy water to deal with......

However........something has to be done....in a perfect world the human aspect would be to alter how we interact with transportation needs....as in needing less-living closer to work spaces and not needing to drive or fly everywhere would be best.....getting rid of frivolous flights and cruise ships would go a long way to lower carbon footprints as well...

I'm going to send you this for Christmas:

Looks like Bee had a phone call with Trump.

There's more important things to get done...the war on drugs and homelessness need to be priorities over frivolous EV.

If the world wants to look deep into climate change, let's start looking at a more viable recycling and waste disposal program and how to create green spaces instead of pavement and cement.

You'll never get an "I was wrong, you were right about EVs".

They are like election deniers.

Population growth in poor countries keep exploding, while they are imploding in wealthy countries.

We need to follow Red’s plan to keep our borders open to everyone. That way all the poor can come here, get rich, and the population can increase until we have more people than China and India combined. With a 8 billion wealthy population in North America, all wealthy, population growth will decline to where it is sustainable.:p:p:rolleyes::laugh:

Not quite tracking what this tangent has to do with EV, homelessness or the drug crisis....?

Refresh your memory by reading post 2533
Here are some hints, should you have missed your cup of coffee this morning.

Over population in poor country = homeless.
Over population = impact on recycling + disposal
Over population = impact on more green spaces.
Over population by the poor in the USA impacts all the above.

Condescending tone not withstanding........

Look at your own post of 2532 and show me that what you posted is based on a global outlook, it looked more like an internal US policy to me....and the US has a lot of issues with internal homelessness brought about by drug use which is another huge crisis within the US (and Canada).

Recycling and waste disposal programs within the US (and Canada) can be far better managed to reduce what is going to landfills....manufacturers have to be brought on board to reduce packaging

Building green spaces would include not clear cutting forests to build subdivisions or parking lots.....or cutting down mature trees on properties just because the home owner is tired of raking leaves....this seems to be a trend that has started around here...

In the face of these issues, putting people's asses into an EV seems like more of a pipe dream than a reality seeing as the cost of EV put them out of reach for many...

Not only that, non-renewable resources are needed to manufacture EV so in that sense, they are no better than ICE.

They are tenacious for certain....

It's almost as though manufacturers use magic fairy dust to manufacture EV and their batteries and the energy to recharge them is limitless and completely environmentally friendly....

I've always maintained-what about the billions of people in other countries that have zero interest or incentive to go to an EV?

North America can go as green as it wants but that does little to off-set the number of non-green countries out there polluting like there's no tomorrow (which there very well might not be).

Let's hope at least some folks somewhere have forward thinking towards progress, rather than reasons to remain complacent.
