Fairness Doctrine and why the Dems want it.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama has expressed his opposition to the Fairness Doctrine; an aide to Senator Obama described the debate surrounding it as "a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible," and cited Obama's support for other proposals such as media-ownership caps and network neutrality. not sure why all the noise out of the dems on this.. the press is most certainly biased to the liberals.. (admitted by both conservatives and liberals alike).. guess they wont be happy till they have a monopoly on everything we hear huh? oh this sounds so ominous...

That was my arguement to Rune. If the majority of the press is liberal then wouldn't this give conervatives a larger voice?

If Fox is "fair and balanced" how would it affect them?

actually no.. the "fix" is in on the election and everyone seems to admit that fact.. The press is favorable towards the Obama side while trying to crucify any aspect of the McCain campaign. (this is not an opinion, it is a recognized fact)..

The fairness doctrine has to do with the "voice" of hosts.. The doctrine does not cover the "color" coverage, it simply covers air time based on the party line.. You can bash a candidate or pump one up all day in the press without having to give a fair share of air time.. however, if you have a conservative radio talk show, you must then have a liberal talk show of equal time..

The liberals have failed at every attempt to produce a liberal talk show.. just does not work to pipe their message out in that format because the American public does not find it worthwhile or credible..

If allowed, the fairness doctrine will be anything but, it will stifle the only opposing voice to the liberal point of view because no one wants to finance (or take the massive financial losses) associated with "Liberal" talk radio.. This will be the beginning of the end.... (socialist/totalitarian govt will prevail) I bet the liberals use this argument however, "oh the conservatives will get more press" may as well shoot yourself in the head now..

Good Points and it probably explains why Obama is against it. please see above.

if you can not see the color of the press reporting on the campaigns, i can not help you..

this is the point in life you must work out the cause and effects on your own without any outside help.. I as do a few others have many years of watching all this happen and can look far enough ahead to see the problems.. The wording of the doctrine is all fine and pretty, but in reality , it is a govt tool to control what you will be allowed to hear or see in the press... "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS" will in fact die..

There is nothing that supports the claim in your post. You may choose not to believe it but it addresses a primary source. If you are going to believe anything put in front of your face then there is no point in further discussing it.

With you no. Take the blinders off.

As William Holden said in the movie Stalag 13..last scene going into the tunnel..

"One more thing. If you see me one the street just pretend we never met."

am afraid I am getting older and more weary of the smoke and mirrors.. Seems people every year get more and more likely to take at face value what they are told..

You, I know sit there and see the same stuff I do, and do not have a clue what to do about it..

We can scream and shout and all you do is bang heads with the indoctrinated.. the brain washing seems to be near complete on many..

I just hope I am dead of old age before the final transformation takes place.. I think the people at that point will just accept it without a fight.. (already happening)

The erosion of personal rights is imminent and due to the fact the people abuse their freedoms (well there is no law against it, so it must be ok, personal accountability is dying fast).. at the same time they let atrophy (voting for instance) the very things that this country was founded for..

At least I know I am not alone here :) I see the time when someone goes, hey those "conservatives" might have been right... watch out here comes the monitor...

It is unlikely we would ever cross paths, I don't plan on visiting fantasyland.
