Fixing oil suckage in 2003 (project for a friend)

there is a tap still but nothing like when you brought it in...it is amplified in the video because it's inside of a closed garage. It is only there at idle...not sure what else to do about it.

I guess with the tank down, and outside running, and in real life it will sound normal. As long as oil pressure warning light is not on, you should be good to go when the master link arrives.

The tapping is abnormal . I would attempt to isolate the origin .

Take the airfilter out of it to hear if it is coming out of one of the velocity stacks for starters

If it's idling low you might be starving the top end of the bike. If idle is set right it sounds bad brother.

Anyone have any good opinions as to what would cause that tapping? I am assuming oil is good. I siezed an engine 25yrs ago after hitting a bump and knocking out the oil pump. The noise just before throwing a rod was very similar. That was the final moments of that Fiat. So Matt, it goes away above idle? Can you record that?

Something caused a shim to go away, and a cotter to be bent per earlier posts by Matt. What would cause that, and would this rattle be related and possibly causing a repeat of that issue?

here's an outdoor pic and video - that tapping is still there, but like I said, much better than it was, and in a different spot.

I really think that both of those were my screwups and unrelated to these noises. I'll check the noise sans airfilter tomorrow. I'm all done for the day.

looking forward to getting the sprockets and chain - I'm hoping one of the brain trust here can give me another idea on where to look to find the source of this noise...and hoping I don't have to drop the engine again and split cases :hide:

One piston on backwards #1 guess as to the problem.

There's alot more to check/inspect as the top end comes apart but screw the typing - i will phone in a few hours .

So, this GSXR sounds identical, and accoring to the comments its definitely shims, alternator, rod knock, chain tensioner and maybe a couple of others.

Big thanks to mountainmotor for the phone time. He thinks it's in the top end - probably a bent valve or something... I'm breaking it down again now and we'll see if there's something I missed the first time.

SACS Suzuki with rockers- don't count .

He said the engine came to him making a knock/tapping noise so how does a knocking rod make "less noise" after a piston re-ring ?

He did say one of the rods didn't swing smooth as the others and stuck in place when moved and added that the pistons were never removed from the rods along with no indication of bent valves on re-assembly so , aside the vacuum leak that's not allowing the engine to come back to idle he's rechecking some things.
