F'N People

Maybe you are right REV, maybe I shouldn't have said anything at all.  Maybe I should wait next time so when a careless dissrespectful person walks too close to my ride I'll just let them bump into, or let them hit it with the bag they are carrying or stratch it with their keys they have on the side of their pants.

Personal space.  Applies to your belongings as well.  So maybe some theif is really close up to your bike and you don't care he can look as closely as he wants, then next thing you know you don't have a bike.  You get another bike are you going to let people in as close?

When I told him, I didn't yell it, didn't have too, he was that close.  He wasn't a couple inches away, he was as close as you can get without actually touching.  Don't forget he has 5 or 6  feet in between me and the other vehichle.  Plenty of room.  So anyone can get up in your face and as long as they are not touching you it's your fault not theirs?

Telling me that if I kept my mouth shut all would have been avoided?  How about if he didn't get so close to my bike all would have been avoided.  Do you let people just get as close as they want with your belongings?  Is it ok for someone to get that close to your wife, kids maybe a fragile peice of work?  I could understand in a crowd but what if they had plenty of room and strangers walked really close to you or yours.

Maybe you don't care and have no respect for other people or their property, or maybe you think the world is bliss and filled with good intentioned people that do no wrong or have any ill will to others.

Give me some of what you are smokin.  And that's that.  If you are a admin that likes to argue with people because you have nothing else better to do and can't get out of your basement then later.  Thought this was a riders forum to share experiences and info.  If it's turning into a pissing forum.  LATER.............
You are right on the money as far as I am concerned busabutter...

I mentioned it wasn't a personal attack, I wasn't there and I said as much, You don't get it. You cannot get past the haze of Fear and Anxiety that leads to your anger, lashing out, and ludicrous behavior.

sort of sounds like you are just "assuming" the worst of these people walking too close and maybe you are right, everyone that gets "too close" is probably a bad guy...

As far as I am concerned... way too much stress living like that

Living in the big city, I had to get used to the idea of vagrants, homeless and the mentally ill approaching very close to ask for help and money... going off on them for getting too close could actually work against you... a bit of empathy goes a lot further in that case..

I think I would agree that you "missed the point" of his post.. (being confrontational does not do a lot of good I guess)

In my opinion, when someone invades your personal space, they're asking for a confrontation. And if the "confrontation" you give 'em is a few, choice words ... well, with few exceptions, the law doesn't even recognize "fighting words" as justification for physical violence.

And handcuffing someone without probable cause or emergent circumstances is unlawful restraint.

Just my $.02.

I don't trust the ROZZERS; we pay their salaries and they turn around and f--k with us---genius !

Ya know guys I do the community service thing coach little league, I'm 47 years old and not a hardened criminal. I know a lot of cops, work out with them, they were not the ones I was talking about. Its the ones that like last week my son and I were cruising in my 68 Chevy C-10 streetrod truck. Doing the speed limit, we get pulled. The lady cop this time comes up real slow like, I understand that, and we get the"do you know why I am pulling you? Why no officer why? You don't have a seatbelt on, I say why yes we do, she argues the fact untill I ask if I can open the door. Shes ok with that, so I do and show her the LAP BELT, that is and was on. Oh, well I am going to give you a warning for the cover on your lic. plate. She goes back to her car and drives off to protect and serve more radar readings. The funny thing though is the tag was out of date. New sticker in the glovebox but I had forgotten to put it on. Boggus stop to make a quick 35.00 for the town. And the guy in my last post, I would have understood if he had said, sorry man we thought you were somebody else, but no, heres a verbal warning for me being scared out of my wits and I am not man enought to admit it.Bogus, those are the ones I'm talking about. Thank you very much.............

I'm gonna post this then go finish prepping my bike for a ride Sat. morning.
When I was a new cop in Watts, I had some terrible and constant confrontations with Black folks, on the street, in houses, it seemed wherever I went I was in fights, got spat at, it just didn't seem to end. One night, young and discouraged, I was assigned with an old guy, ready to retire. He said something to me that changed my life...."Just because the first 999 black people you meet have been hard for you, that doesn't mean that the thousandth one won't become your best and lifelong friend, and maybe even the next 999 you meet will be great people". I thought about it and realized that that applies to all groups of people that may be different from you in some way. Color of skin, choice of religion, type of career...it's ignorant to assume all of ANY type of group are the same and should be collectively hated. When we all get that, the world will change. True enough, and lets not forget that it's popular and trendy to hate, fear, and talk crap about LEOs.

Officers also have to deal with all the insecure over compensating douche bags who suffering from a chronic cranial rectal disorder feel threatened by anyone with even the tiniest little bit of authority.

Let's put it another way, if you are frequently having run-ins with the police, you are doing something wrong and need to check your head. Be it speeding, drinking, or whatever, it's pretty damn easy to NOT see a LEO, and never get "hassled"...

You sir are very correct, I always try to respect the police until, that respect not being earned is lost. Most and the guys I know from the gym are good folks. Used to ride with some of them, Fast... but when you have these kind of experiences and you see them profiling, harleys get away with murder, and the young sportbike guys getting jerked around for nothing, or at the end of the month, all the cop cars lined up on the 4 lane (45 mph)zone before the curve you can't see around " getting their quotas". Yep seen it 8 of them and the 9th was hiding behind a tree with the radar gun. Nailing people left and right. Luckily I wasn't speeding "Spidey sences tingling" and I had my seatbelt on. Quick and easy money for the city. Hey if they wanted to impress me how about just returning "ONE" of my phone calls about my missing bike. Naw, I guess the creeps who took it were not speeding when they left, surely then it would have been recovered. Just my opinion............

You may want to think about this "profiling" as you condone the stunters blocking highways and putting on their impromptu stunt shows..

The same thread you gave a +1 on (stunters on the freeway) is the exact issue that draws these moments of harassment by LEOs... you can not have it both ways...

I was rather dismayed that the number of guys here that gave that video a thumbs up... rather disappointed probably more to the point..

But regardless, there is a mind set that can watch a group of 40 or so bikes disregard every ones safety and break countless laws and then go "Hey that's cool"

Just food for thought...

Mr. Bogus, I don't know why it's important for me to respond to your post, but it is. I love watching "Superbikes" on speed but it makes my blood run cold when street racing, impromptu stunt shows, smokey burnouts are glorified on that show. As a retired cop, I remember "briefing" before shift when we were told where the expected street races were supposed to be going down. At the time, I was also a motorcycle drag racer and had disonant and painful feelings about swooping in on a bunch of motorcyclists and busting them. I remember some of the collisions (including little kids spectating) and how these racers weren't "my kind of motorcyclists" anyways. They represented all the things I stood against...lack of safety gear, low public opinion of lawless bikers, etc. I guess in any given "hobby" done in public, there are those that care what impression they leave and those who don't. Anyways, I enjoy your rational posts. Raydog

I would be very thankful to anyone who can change my perspective on LEOs, so far nobody succeeded.
Those bad apples makes all of you look bad. If you are one of them, well, just think about it next time you on the road making up your quota.

beerchug.gif

Vic - I think the issue is that the good LEOs are the ones out there fighting and solving other crimes besides petty traffic violations. You don't run into them because they are not out there pulling people over to make a quota. I know a few good ones.

<!--QuoteBeginThe Rev]
I'll tell you what Vic+one thing I learned a long time ago, every interaction with a LEO is 90% attitude regardless of the situation. I met one Piece of Crap useless guy with a Uniform on a few years back, and thats the only reason it's 90%. Sometimes, very rarely, even if you are mellow, calm, and honest a LEO will still be a chump.

Not sure about the percentages, but it is usually the chump who is just looking for a reason (or not) to pull someone over. I know they are good cops, but they are not the ones out there pulling people over for no good reason.

Otherwise+it's all in your attitude, DROP THE ATTITUDE, Forget all about how important you think you are, or how much you are being wronged by being pulled over. Be friendly, Smile, Answer the questions, and do not come across as being somehow special, or entitled to some privilege or concession. Deal with the facts at hand and nothing else. They don't care about you, what you do for a living, or how picked on you feel.
[/quote]

Why do I have to smile and be friendly to this guy who just 'made my day'? A bad thing just happened to me (pulled over) and I'm supposed to be this guy's best friend and thank him for giving me a ticket?

SO, Something to think about when you get pulled over next time. Deep Breath, Loose the attitude, be polite and courteous, and I can just about guarantee you'll have a better time.
super.gif

This I am ok with. I was always polite and courteous the three times I was pulled over in 6 years (in cages). I just don't think I have to be your friend and all smiles like I'm happy my insurance rates are about to go up.

Now, this may be for another thread, but here in NC, the friendly LEO cites you for your violation and then at the bottom writes down what he observed/clocked you at. So my wife got a ticket for 65 in a 55, but at the bottom of the ticket, he writes 75mph. In essence, she was going 75, but I only wrote her up for 65. When you go to court, they use this against you - well, we would cut you some slack on your ticket but I see you were really going 75...

Not sure how I really feel about this. I don't want the ticket for 75, but there is something wrong when they hold this above your head and use it in their decisions. If you write me for 65, leave it at that....

THESE STUNTS ARE PERFORMED BY PROFESSIONALS !!!!

I just never knew there were so many pro's out there ?

Call it a debate thats all. Present your opinion and an opposing one will be presented. No harm no foul.

This forum will not only support you in your convictions but when we see a causal behavior needing to be addressed you will definitely hear constructive criticism for your betterment. It may take you a minute to realize that it was offered in a friendly way rather than with hostility.

Personally, I have learned that initiating contact in such situations does more harm than good. I would definitely have put his arse on the ground if he had invaded my space enough to nudge the bike or damage it in some obvious way. However, since he didn't I would have kept my mouth shut.
As you've learned, being quick on the trigger and maybe jumping the gun will get you cuffed when you felt you were doing the right thing.
Friendly advice really.. That is all you will get here.

I don't see where butters did anything wrong (outside of not checking his mirrors a wee but more often

). Some people here are sounding a little holier than thou Saying the man did something wrong. What exactly did he do wrong? All he did was ask someone to keep space from his vehical?? He didn't say he was gonna carve the guys heart out in front of all these people if he got one inch closer. I don't know about anyone else here but where I live you if you don't remain aware and active to your surrounding and personal space, you become a victim. A thug isn't gonna try anything with someone being fully aware of their presence or addressing them.

And i'm sorry I do have to laugh a bit at Revils Post saying he'd tell someone asking (not threatening, big difference in the eyes of the law) him to keep their distance from their property where they could stick it and THEN says you can't lose your temper like that in today's day and age since he's been there before. Sure you learned from all those past lessons rev?

Truth is it sounds like the officer is the one who's head got a little hot towards a rider. No i'm not saying all cops are evil and have 666 on their badges. But they are human and not all humans are good little angels either. And if he would have arrested butter for such bs then his dept would most likely have a nice lawsuit on their hands under the circumstances. In terms of wrong doing, the pedestrain endangered themself walking through parked traffic like that. And since when is it lawful for kids to scream words in public that would get adults fined or arrested in some areas if they did the same thing? This officer had plenty of things he could have addressed besides the rider if he was watching this unfold (and most likley was. That was a bit too quick to be cell phoned in). Yea butter was in the center of alot of wrong, but he sure wasn't in the wrong.

Besides mirror checking more (even when stopped) the only thing Butter could have done better was memorize the officers badge # and file a complaint. Because alot of the times people get away with bs is when Nobody speaks up.
