Gen 1 owners, what octane do you run?

What octane level do you run on the street?

I run 93 Octane and only from high volume fuel stations. Meaning that they have a high turn over for fuel and the fuel is not sitting in the tanks collecting moisture or debri.
I also do not have stock compression anymore and have lots of engine mods.
But that is my opinion and what I do.

I run as high of octane as I can get from the pump.

Here is a graph of 2 dyno runs. Which fuel had the higher octane?

Run 8 was 104 octane Unleaded race (street legal) fuel that matched pump gas in specific gravity and oxygenation.

Tank was drained and filled to the top with 91 octane pump gas.
A bit of tuning on the 91 would have produced even higher peak numbers. With a 50/50 or 70/30 blend we would have seen even better numbers. This is on a 13.2:1 compression engine. A stock Gen1 busa is closer to 10.7:1

Ok this is from the FACTORY service man. And I quote....

Use only unleaded gasoline of at least 87 pump octane (R/2 + M/2) or 91 octane or higher rated by the research Method.

Gasoline containing MTBE ( Menthyl Tertiary Butyl Ether ), less than 10% ethanol, or less than 5% methanol with appropriate cosolvents and corrosion inhibitor is pemissible.

Gasoline used should be graded 91 octane or higher. An unleaded gasoline is recommended.

Unquote......

My country lowest octane is 92,highest is 100.I pump 95 nowadays should i pump 92 instead?

I would pump 92 in your case, unless you have it tuned for something higher.:beerchug:

Actually 187 pc is the California Penal Code section for murder, I was recently in a max security Cali prison and noticed a couple white supremists with "187" tatts (swell fellas).
And octane? I use SoCal racing fuel "red death" 118 octane.....in a quad I built, 87 in Busa with perfect results (full exhaust system, K&N, PC III and dyno tune). In these times, why would anyone pay even 2 cents a gallon more than they had to? Raydog

The guy I bought mine from used 91, but after reading the threads here, I switched to 87 Chevron. Bike runs perfect, hot weather, full throttle, high elevation, whatever comes up. Just so you know, all gasoline is the same. It is additives that make them different. The Techron in the Chevron gasolines really make a difference. My car has 210,000 miles, truck has 175,000 miles, Goldwing has 121,000 miles, and the Harley has 45,000 miles. Not once have I had to work on their fuel systems.

Wow, good information.

I've been running 93 out of habit in my BUSA. It does have a little bit of a rough idle. Next tank I'll go with 87 and see what happens.

Thanks for the thread.

 Now I just gotta go "empty" my tank to try the 87! Woooo hooO!
