Gen 2 Trunk Mod

I did this mod on Saturday using the black Rubbermaid can at 4-1/2" deep. There don't seem to be any issues. Wan't to thank all the picture posters and contributors as well as the OP. A really good idea was made into a relatively easy install because of all the information in this thread. Thanks to All.

New here, but just did this mod over the weekend, and I'm sooooo happy to have more space in my trunk now! I drag a lot and have my bike on adjustable links, so I think I ended up about 3.5 to 4in. cut, and so far no rubs! I lower it more when I get to the track, so we will see how that goes! So far it will fit 2 sodas, a CO2 bottle and mount, and I'm hoping for a 2lb NOs bottle (minus the soda of course in that circumstance)! Thanks for the idea!!!!

i do not believe in drinking and driving at all, but I did not have a 6 pack of dr. pepper to prove my point, but here are a couple of pics of my trunnk mod

I'm really striking out trying to find the right trashcan for this. Been measuring the base trying to find a 9x11ish size. My Home Depot didn't carry Husky and they only had options that weren't black. Lowes had options but what I ended up with was a 9x12 which puts me in the same boat as the file folder needing the back cut off. Staples had options that were 7x12. Walmart seemed to have some but the base was more oval with flattened ends. I've got the floor cut out of my trunk now and a ride on Friday so I'm getting short on time. Suggestions?

I'de check some other Wal-Marts. The ones in this area all seem to keep the same kinds, but what's in stock at any store and any time varies. I re did mine with a trashcan several months after the original file box. I got it at Wal-Mart and it works great. I hope you find one soon.

i still rock the original file box with no issues. i have placed some pretty weighted stuff in there without a problem. my rivets hold the box in perfectly but there will be some bowing if you get carried away. worst case scenario, if you can't find a trash can right away at the wally world then grab a file box and swap it out at a later date. just a suggestion since your pinched for time.

I used a standard 13.5 gallon kitchen trash can from walmart. Its a tad bigger but nothing you can't make fit just fine.

Was the one people have used from Walfart have a rectangular base or the flattened end oval? The term standard 13 gal seems a bit of a misnomer as I've come across a few differerent styles that are in that size.

Rectangular base.

You guys using anything to seal the corners from dust and such getting in there. I am thinnking of trying some foam that I can cut in a wedge shape and a small screwdriver to keep dirt out of there.

Any other better suggestions?
