Gen 3 Latest report ..

Can't really argue with that, solid logic. I like the g3 but wish they went bigger, I think it's all about cost, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since it saves customers money too. Still, they probably did this because they don't have to worry about the competition of the zx14 anymore.
I'm not sure they were ever too worried about the competition, the busa has always outsold the ZX-14. I think the 14R will be around for at least a few more years in the US. They still have the H2 and some other bikes to compete with. I think they could have taken a much bigger leap forward but we'll see what the uncorked Gen3 does. If it's faster than an uncorked ZX-14R, they hit the nail on the head.

Do you think since it has the extra emissions controls and electronics that flashing the ecu or other mods will make an even bigger difference in performance?

@Dancallun yes, I think so. On one of the Gen3 threads going here, there was a report of a Gen3 making 116 ft lb of torque which edges out the ZX-14R. 193 hp just 12 shy of the 14R. That was a Gen3 busa with an Akrapovich exhaust. I assume the fueling was tuned for the exhaust but a complete flash will undoubtedly adress a lot of things other than just fueling.

I guess the elephant in the room that no one seems to be talking about is..... Flashing the ECU.
Considering they're getting harder and harder to crack, could be a while before it's available..
Especially with all the "smarts" this one has..

It will be a bit more tricky for sure but the tuners will crack it pretty quickly...

They are flashing the superbike ECUs which have most of the same electronic suite.

My guess is it's probably using the same basic software as the new gixxer 1000 and those are being flashed so it shouldn't take long to crack

My neighbor was telling me he has to complete 1000kms before BMW will open his ECU up, it is part of the package he got.

I'd imagine anyone buying the gen 3 will have some sort of similar limitation if they want to keep their warranty.

+I think thats BMW. they want a clean breakin before you rip it. My bike had a limiter on it for 600 miles that kept the rpm below 6K (it redlines at 9K, so not too annoying)

You made a bike that has performance improvements that are important to the average rider instead of making a larger engine that would loose the bulletproofness and character of the old engine. That was your choice. Somehow Kawasaki made a bike with a larger more powerful engine that didn't loose the character or bulletproofness of the old engine. A lot of potential Hayabusa owners will buy a 14R and that will be their choice.
Ge 3 refinements are great.thats my opinion,I like the looks..still waiting 4 it

Makes sense to me, better to be safe than lose your warranty...

No limitation at all on mine.....rev light was set at 10,000rpm...dealer just said to take it easy for 600 miles but not to just cruise about as that does more harm than good to any engine.
The warm up and cool down process is as important as the revs used.
Personally id be ps'd off if the ecu was locked let alone suspicious of the engine quality and factory bench testing.

Yoshi japan the X1R hayabusa dry weight 436.. rarest hayabusa in the world 1 of 100 X1 who's got that bike?

very nice sound!... I wish they also release a dual setup.. 4-2-2 system. Id love to keep the dual setup on the Gen3
You would need to look at Yoshimura Japan for that, USA does the basic exhaust.

Expect to pay a decent price for it too.

So your ECU is unlocked from the factory? Maybe the "gentleman's agreement" is done with?

It will be interesting if the top speed of the gen 3 will top out the '99 (194 mph) out of the box....
