GEN 3 starting issues

The nightmare returns! After three perfect months, yesterday I had another problem turning on at the traffic lights and not even too hot! Started after 5 minutes and never did it again. I had changed the starter motor and gears. I'm desperate, even out of warranty
That would be most frustrating......I'm sad to hear this...

Had this issue on gen 2 everytime with hot start. My guess it is something to do with internal of the engine expanded due to heat so i changed battery to Lithium with higher output. Never had hot start issue again for the next 5 years of ownership.

I’ve had the issue from day one on my 24 Gen 3 Busa, described it to my dealer at time of first service, they did a software update and it has resolved the issue for me.

I was recently told by my mechanic there is definitely no software update, and to prove it he showed me the SDS2 when he connected it to my bike. This may mean my bike had the updates installed at the factory?? As for the hot start issue, he checked with Suzuki's head technician (in my country) who confirmed the fix is to replace the torque limiter assembly.

well, if youre reading this entire thread apparently the 'software update' was not true.
Interesting as I waited at the dealer for the first service and “software update” to be performed as they had indicated was being done and the bike has never had the hot start issue again vs it had the issue every time it was started when at operating temps for the first 600 miles whenever I forgot to open the throttle a little upon starting which would always solve the issue.

I know the issue went away for me after they did whatever they actually did in the service bay and what they told me was that it was a software update so not sure what to say if others are claiming this is not the case and given the issue did go away in its entirety I have no doubt something was in fact done and don’t know why the dealer would have made something up vs just saying what was done to rectify the issue.

In either case my apologies for any misinformation if what I was told was incorrect and I hope anyone still having the issue gets it resolved on their bikes as it was a little annoying to say the very least.

MarK.

My gen2 presented the same 'heavy cranking' when hot. But, never, when cold. Considering the viscosity of the oil being higher when cold, it 'should' be easier to crank when hot, not the opposite. So, the battery wouldn't be the cause. One day I heard a plausible explanation and a corresponding solution : the presence of fuel in the chambers, and their untimely ignition. To avoid it, open the throttles just a little and hit the start button. Yes, it works 100%..

An update for those who are interested. My Gen 3 goes in for warranty work on this issue in a couple of weeks. While I was booking it in, the mechanic indicated that they recently replaced the torque limiter assembly on another customer's Gen 3 even though it didn't have the hot start problem because the VIN came up on the system. This indicates that Suzuki (Australia) might be quietly doing a 'recall' for Gen 3's, but only if you take it to a Suzuki dealer and your VIN comes up. The mechanic confirmed to me yet again that there is definitely no software update that fixes the issue, and if there was one, they'd gladly do an update over having to pull the fairing off and replace the torque limiter. Anyway, once the job is done and I've tested it I'll post if it made any difference. For now, starting with a tiny bit of throttle is the fix for me.

Mine will hit three years this May and still does it. If the fan turns on due to slow traffic, TOO LATE. Something already got heatsoaked and the starter will struggle like it has a dead battery. That caused me to only ride at night or in the morning due to fear of being left stranded.

But, the other day it did it when the day was fresh, so I decided to keep trying and it finally started after four or five tries. I do not chicken out anymore. I know the battery is good, so now I just keep trying until it finally starts as if nothing ever happened. It just makes people give me odd looks as if my Gen 3 was a hoopty. :D
