GEN 3 starting issues

Now everything is OK! I think Pashnit is right and the cause is the gear, not so much the starter motor.I changed both

I have this problem with gen II and gen III. I'm not a mechanic but I picture the high compression pistons ending up in the wrong spot on hot days, making the battery seem weak. When it happens, I have learned to rock the bike back and forth in first gear a little bit and then do a restart. Has worked every time with both bikes!

Almost two years later (Mother's Day 2022), I got my second episode of hot start issue.

Things in common: Super hot day, and at around 1400. Went to the grocery store 3 miles down the road. About six traffic lights. Low speed so no time for air to cool things off. I shut off the engine, let the fan blow until it shuts off, and I leave.

Ten minutes later, bike wouldn't start. After two attemps and a desperate prayer, third time it started up like nothing. Thirty seconds total from seemingly having a dead battery to behaving like a new battery.

It's why since that first scary time in 2022, unless it's a road that lets me arrive with plenty of speed to keep the temp gauge at the 1/4 mark, I mostly ride after 1600 when the sun is far away and temperatures have dropped.

what do you mean by 'super hot'? I am not heat-resistant myself anyroad...

Mine was a short warm-up to get temperature in the oil, then a ten mile ride at 55 mph with outside ambient temp of around 50 degrees. I highly doubt mine is a temp issue. Highs are in the low 30’s this week so I won’t get a chance to ride again for a while. Time will tell. Still looks way cool in my shop!

It's Suzuki's fault, we know that, but what if this is happening due to whatever flawed starter part needing a goldilocks temperature?

Yours happened in what would feel like Antartica to my bike. Mine happened in what would feel like hell to your bike.

Maybe it's expanding or contracting past a certain clearance. Just an ignorant theory. I haven't read the entire thread. I've gathered it's two versions of a starter issue with different causes.

I still don't think it's a hardware issue.
Opening the throttle is a repeatable fix.
This suggests a tuning issue. Table maps. @smithabusa does your gen 3 have this issue using a maxecu?

not really but its kind of cheating, i can make the throttle open as much as i want during cranking in the maxx without having to move the throttle manually, change ignition timing during cranking etc.

And that's kind of my point. Maybe the factory ecu tables don't account enough for temp or other variables.

The nightmare returns! After three perfect months, yesterday I had another problem turning on at the traffic lights and not even too hot! Started after 5 minutes and never did it again. I had changed the starter motor and gears. I'm desperate, even out of warranty
