My favorite Saturday morning cartoon was Wacky Races with bobo Dastardly and Muttley the dog. Good stuff.
Edit: the wonderful censor replaced Mr Dastardly’s first name (think 4 letters starting with D, short for Richard) with bobo. With everything that’s allowed here, that’s ridiculous.

I just read briefly that the Top 3 finishes in a female bike race were all transgendered.

I guess if you have been a couch potato for most of your life, you won’t appreciate how much athletic competition builds character in all aspects of success, towards a person’s life.
The Olympic values are excellence, respect and friendship on an international basis.
Not something which should be disrespected by anyone.
If you have never won an athletic event, among professional competition, you will have no understanding of what it takes and what it means.
Who exactly are you calling a couch potato? You REALLY have zero clue as to whom you are talking to.....at all....
The Olympics are all about money....period....
Billions upon billions of dollars spent on these events, many venues left to rot afterwards and for what?
Each and every event has a professional championship each year, most if not all of these athletes have competed against each other several times.
However, what I was speaking about is about optics...we have two large scale wars happening right now yet the rest of the world is acting as if it's business as usual by attending the Olympics....which it's not. Great way to gather people of the world in one place for terror attacks though....

Bee, I know our politics are a mess at this time. Watching Trump’s rally yesterday, one can only bow in shame. On the other side, we have Kamala, who has a socialist agenda, even further left than Bernie Sanders.
So when you talk about “all the crap in the world” a lot of it has to do with our current administration.
You are not an America!!! Is it really necessary to keep rubbing our noses in this? To keep disrespecting us? Have you ever seen anyone around here ever spew this amount of disrespect towards Canada? I don’t think so.
Now you are turning your disrespect towards the international community, by discrediting the Olympics. The prime event which traditionally is designed to bring all the nations of the world together. You have no idea about what it takes to be a professional athlete. You have no idea of the amount of work, dedication, perseverance and tenacity it takes, to try and be the best at something. No athlete deserves your disrespect.

I welcome anyone who wants to talk about Canadian politics.....I haven't once said anything about American politics that anyone else hasn't said........I haven't added anything new to the chat.
I have generations of family in the US, my father's father and mother were born there as well as their parents, grandparents and great grandparents.....I have a sister living there (Florida) and many aunts, uncles and cousins.....so I'm not some blow-hard with no American bonds.

Disrespect to the international community?
The Olympics is all about money and a blatant waste of it at that. You've mentioned being a professional athlete-good for you....there would still be professional athletes without the Olympics....most of these competitors are coached, trained and live in countries that are not their country of birth. They then compete under their country of origin's flag against people they have been training and competing against for years....where is the suspense?
I know the history of the Olympics and what it represented and it is has lost it's way over the millennia......I personally have no time for it.....
And as this is a forum, where we are allowed to have differing opinions, I respect your personal right to that opinion...it certainly doesn't mean I have to share that opinion...........It also doesn't mean we need to launch personal attacks against one another in the process.

Hi. Well good for them. They are very brave men er women to come out. This just goes to show us all that men and woman are 100% equal. NOT.
I have to be the oddball that thinks the Olympics are ill timed...
Many nations have citizens living in huge tent cities, other citizens are barely able to support their families and put food on the table....it's almost like eating a huge piece of chocolate cake in front of starving people (in my opinion).
Then we have the "Just stop oil" extremists destroying works of art all in the name of the "climate crisis" but no consideration to all the flights and other polluting modes of transport in support of the Olympics....

Hi. I think that the Olimpice are ment to bring the world and all its people togather It is to show people that we can all get along. But then again it just is not working.
I got no time for games....lmao
I like watching some of the events...the winter Olympics are my favorite....those crazies on the snowboards are something to watch....
I just think this year is a poor year for the Olympics...
I prefer watching motorcycle racing atheletes , generally , gutsy as it gets .

I watched this in real time today. The 75 year old champ’s car blew up @ 302 mph as he crossed (winning) the finish line. The concussion must have hit so hard that he never deployed his chutes. What a slam!
I enjoy sports quite a bit. It’s a great distraction from the evils of the world you mentioned. Taking a break doesn’t mean one doesn’t care, it’s just a refueling so to speak. I concur with Jelly; all the work that goes into preparation is evident and the preparation and dedication involved are the same attributes used in all worthwhile applications in life.
I see the olympics as a huge money sink that brings lots of drama along with it...
How many former olympic venues are wasting away and rotting that cost millions upon millions to build at one time? Too many is the answer.....
To top it all off, how many coaches and athletes from all countries train together in a regular season? I knew a guy whose wife trains and coaches olympic figure skaters from all over the world and then they compete against each other during the olympics with her or her assistant coaches coaching them......there are no surprises as to what the athlete is capable of.
I find the olympics to be just a big, expensive world's competition.
I was watching a pod cast the other day and some woke idiot said there should be no gender in the olympics.....the host, my wife and I all said the same thing almost at the same time.....good bye to a female ever getting a medal if that was a reality....
