Lost My 17 Year Old Daughter Off the Back...

Wow! All I can say is wow! So glad she is home! Speedy recovery to her. She still looks great! all smiles! Thanks for the pic post.

Again speedy recovery to back on the bike soon!

cheers!

I was working in the ER one night when something terrible came in. A guy was working on his car, carbs specifically, some freak accident happened, and his kid (around 4 years old), ended up getting burned in the face - all the child was doing was watching his dad work on his car.

Another incident was a 6 year old who ran infront of her dad while he was playing Horse Shoe's (or whatever the name of that game is). Well, he threw the shoe, she ran infront of the path, and she ended up having a depressed skull fracture.

Moral of the story? Shid happens, to EVERYONE. Think of it this way, you may have just spawned a new ATGATT rider, not by imposing your will over her, but from her own choice. Lessons learned the hard way aren't usually forgotten.

This could have turned out really bad, but I'm sure you already know that. I'm just glad she's going to be ok. We all make bad decisions sometimes. Something tells me you posted this up looking for a verbal beating, because you felt so bad about the whole thing, but seriously you shouldn't beat yourself up over it. You sound like you have a great relationship with your children and for that I admire you. Obviously you meant no harm in what you did, just a lapse in judgement. It's a lesson we can all learn from. If it's too hot for gear, it's too hot to ride.

Praying for a speedy recovery and that the wife isn't too rough on you either. :please:

Don't be too hard on yourself, it could have been a lot worse. Yeah, a lack of good judgement on the safety gear but what you got was a warning. It looks bad right now but she is young and will heal quickly with some good stories to tell. DO NOT LET THIS STOP YOU FROM HAVING QUALITY RIDING TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY! Just gear up without fail. (I don't think that is going to be a problem from now on!)

Best wishes, she will heal quicker than you can imagine. Sounds like you need to start!

Sweet Jesus, Bill. :wow:

I'm glad that she's none the worse for wear...and glad that she's able to smile about it. Seeing her like that gave me flashbacks...gauzed up back and arms.

Do me a favor and watch over them a little more, wouldja?

whew...glad this wasn't worse.

Jinks what is done, is done. Sorry about your daughter. I read some of your posts on FZ1, and your daughter on the bike. No amount of beating yourself up will help matters. You won`t do that again for any price. Again sorry for the get off, and I hpoe your daughter is OK.

If it makes you feel better, kick your ass. Talk to your girls, wife included.

Good vibes man.

Sorry to hear about this mishap. You can buy vitamin E products from pharmacy to prevent scars from happening while its healing.I hope she is getting on fine and slowly adapting to it.Dont reprimand yourself too much, take it as a valuable lesson learnt.Spend more time taking good care of her and her needs.

What was the estimated speed? Sounds like a slow area if ppl are playing in the streets but those marks look pretty bad to be slow speed???

So happy to see she is home. More prayers sent her way. Thanks for the pics that were posted. I sat down with my daughter last night and we looked at them. I explained to her that that is why she can't ride with me until I get her gear. She understands now. I just hate that this had to happen to your daughter for my daughter to understand. Be strong my friend for your family, especially your daughter. When she is ready, get back out there and enjoy your time with her.

I would bite you in the azz as an irresponsible rider for no gear, but like is said "casting the first stone". I hope your daughter heals quickly, I know as a parent your heart must be bleeding right now. ATGATT.

I'm so sorry I'm late replying...

I hated to read the title of this thread; almost afraid to open it

I'm soooo glad she's OK

I'm glad this situation is going to have a positive outcome for all. A small learning lesson for some an unforgetable life lesson for others.

Its freakin hot down here and me and the wife sometimes think about leaving the jackets at home but then we think about the phrase 'The one time you let your gaurd down is the one time when the worst will happen."

We wear all our gear and sweat our butt's off. Our future daughter will ride on the back of our bike's for the weekend rides someday. I still cant wait till the day we take her out to shop for her gear. My wife says i need to get used to the color pink. oh, joy.
hehehehhee I cant wait!!!!!

First off, there aren't a bunch of ridiculous comments. Most posters are very supportive and even those that are critical have good points to make. Secondly, the passenger has no options in what gear they choose to wear or not wear. That is solely up to the owner/rider of the bike. If the passenger chooses not to wear the gear then they don't get on the back, period. Third, to say it was an accident and that he did nothing wrong is just silly. It was an incident that was the result of two bad decisions, not wearing proper gear and accelerating too hard for the passenger on the back whether they were expecting it or not.

Everybody does stupid things at one point whether its in a car or on a bike and we all learn from them. I remember showing off the power of my GS750ES to a passenger and finding out on a high speed corner that this guy had no experience on the back of a bike and was counterleaning in the corner....it was all I could do to get the bike leaned over and avoid drifting right into the curb and crashing....scared the crap out of me and I never did that again! This whole story reminds me of why I never ride on the back of anyone elses bike. I just don't trust the pilot enough.

I give you a lot of credit for posting this and I really feel for you and your daughter in relation to her injuries. I hope she heals up soon.

 Just the type of tard I am talking about. Don't bother posting again, I won't read it or respond. People like you don't need to be on a motorcycle because they are thinking they are going to wreck before it happens and eventually you will. Your buddy leaning should have been no issue unless you are about a buck 40 soaking wet.....
