Modding the new Pashnit Busa

I’m enjoying this thread so far. I sold my busa a few years ago and ended up on a street glide that I rode about 20k miles. But now it’s time for another Busa. Haven’t seen the pashnit name in a long time, good stuff.

Ok I have to step in here Tim . Double nuts ? Come on buddy lets get with the hardware program of poly lock . Or how about a Titanium poly lock ;)

Yes, the secret to a good install is lots & lots of LocTite. And it came this way. Random bolts everywhere. About six trips to the hardware store for bolts so far (it's a mile from my house). I do have some of the fairing push-pins in stock though so good there.

Tim could you sell the smoked signals ? make a nice gift for my brothers bird . He likes that look .

Most items being pulled off will be sold to recoup build costs.

All the smoke stuff will be sold. Ask you brother if he'd like the complete F/R smoke kit?

Rear smoke turn signals
Rear smoke Taillamp
Front smoke turn signals - Everything works fine and looks good. PM me.

Also selling the dark rims & the Delkevic slip ons.

I have a set of '09 silver rims. So I'll swap the rims in about a month after the first big ride and I burn off what's left on these Pirelli Rosso II tires. My favorite Avon ST tires have been discontinued, so will have to figure out what tire set to get next, likely Avons new ST tires. Also eventually take off the stock brake rotors, but likely keep those. I have a set of F/R Galfer Wave Rotors. I did something really dumb five years ago and sold off my custom anodized Galfer wave rotors so will try to have this set refurbished and custom anodized & engraved.

Tim once you do a Russel day long no other seat will ever compare again . I have one , and it has been the #1 mod on my bird . Followed by cruise control . when you can travel 1170 miles , and only be of the saddle for than 1 hour total it says a lot . Never had to stand up either .

The Russell Day Long seat is kind of the pinnacle of seatdom. Last time I looked, they were like $500.

Day-Long | Motorcycle Seats | Russell Cycle

I'm in a holding pattern on a seat for this bike just waiting for one to pop up. One will eventually. For now I've got 4 seats for this bike, (2) stock seats, the Corbin & the custom one I used once.

My tour company weekend tours are generally 300 mile days which is manageable on what I have. Although.... It would be fun to plan another Iron Butt ride.

While we've got the tail off, we'll remove this clunky-looking license light bracket

This Targa bracket slides in nicely to the stock subframe: I had to add longer bolts and spacers to get the plate to clear the tail plastic though. Nice clean option for the 08+ Hayabusa.

If you've been wondering how to mount your license plate with a nice clean install, and you like this bracket for your Busa, do a quick search for: Targa 22-510-L - Black Aluminum License Mount about $20 on EB.

This bracket is still available:

Notice anything missing? No Charcoal canister. This bike is a WA model so the CA models have the canister, this one does not.

Healtech Brake Lite Pro - Brake Light Modulator

While the tail is off, good opportunity to add a Brake Light Modulator. I love these and think they should be standard on all bikes. Too many idiots behind you not paying attention. Brake Light Modulators flash the brake light & then goes solid to make it legal. I've been using them for 20+ years.

Several brands make these but we'll use the Healtech Brake Lite Pro which is tiny and prgrammable.

...and easy to install. Three wires and we'll use posi-tap connectors which makes the install even more easy. Cut the hot wire and feed that into the modulator. This can easily be removed when you sell the bike and move on to something else.

See the machine nut spacers? Sigh. But here's how tiny this thing is. Comes with double-sided tape on the back. Just attach somewhere or zip tie it and done.

Hey @pashnit on the side fairings of that 2008 blue, are they half black and half blue?

The stock '08 is blue/black with gold rims. The rear side fairings are black.

How my first '08 looked in 2011 with barely 1000 miles on it.

I didn't like the black, so I sent my fairings to RaceReady.org in FL and had William paint mine + the dash panels.

RaceReady.org also painted dash panels on my '00 way back when.

The only bonus to these non-stock china fairings the bike came with is the rear side fairings are blue, not stock black. Go figure. But that works for me as I don't have to get that painted. And I'd like to eventually buy a stock nose and stock side fairings in blue.

So having the rear side fairing come in blue was a huge bonus to this bike.

Harris Busa Grips

Always loved the Harris Busa Grips. I first bought a set 15 years ago. Nowadays, Hard to find. When a new set popped up on-line, I bought them and held onto them last couple years.

Superbike grips are okay, but...

Harris Busa Grips installed on my '00. I also put them on the TL1000R. I know, not a busa, but I like 'em.

Eventually, we'll get around to installing all the RAM balls on the bike seen here used for camera mounts.)

Compressed Air is always easiest way to get the old grip off without cutting it off. These old Superbike Grips can be saved for another bike someday in the future.

After getting the right grip off, we'll carve off the lip so we can install the Throttlemeister kit.

Right side is really hard to get off & on due to the plastic twist grip but after arm wrestling it with a bit of dish soap water and the wife's hair dryer, eased on the Harris Busa Grip. Left side was easy.

Since I mentioned Throttlemeisters, and we're fiddling with changing out the grips, time to add a Throttle Lock.

Throttlemeisters are a bar end Throttle Lock kit that have been around a very long time. They come in several versions. Hold on to them when you sell your bike and put them on the next bike, and the next. All you need is a new bolt kit for the new bike. I've sold hundreds of them over the years & one of the first mods I do with a new bike. I've had them installed on all three Hayabusa's, my TL1000R, my two Z1000's, my ST1100. The trick with these is they have to be adjusted correctly to work.

They did not work as well on the TL1000R which has hollow bars.

Hollow bars require an expansion bolt kit that expands inside the tube. I could never get it adjusted just right on the TL1000R but that's just me.

Bolt kit for the Hayabusa is much simpler. Bolt + spacers + the rubber sleeve. The sleeve that you slide on is the reason why you have to carve off the lip on the twist grip.

The Hayabusa with the solid bar- Simple & easy. You have to get the washers/spacers just right, and when you do that, it works perfect.

Throttlemeisters use a brass sleeve inside the bar end, as you roll the bar end towards you, that rotates inward and pushes against the rubber sleeve. The word 'Lock' is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't lock anything. The pressure against the grip equalizes the throttle return spring pull and when adjusted properly, the spring pull is equalized. If you don't want to spend the ~$100 some dollars for a kit like this, you can make your own, or even use one of the cheap plastic throttle locks. I had those for many on several bikes 20 years ago.

Throttlemeisters with Hayabusa bolt kit - Note the washers that come with the kit. That's how you adjust the fitment to get it just right.

Throttlemeiser is not the only type of throttle lock.

Several plastic versions, $50 will get you an Omni-Cruise:

This one is called the BrakeAway & runs about $180

This bike came with a Mag-Knight tank bra. I used to sell these years ago and the sport-touring community loved these as they protect the tank but won't wear off the clear coat like a tank bra will.

I'm not quite sure what to do with this, sell it to one of you I suppose. I don't need it because we'll put the Bagster on here.

Not sure if Mag-Knight is still around. Their website still works and this cover lists out at $112.
