OK, Tough Choices...  Sell the RX-8 And get???

and another

Yeah, Jester... The RS4 is schweet but if IF I was in the mood to spend more than $50k on a car? I'm going to be in either an M4 or M3 BMW. Nothing else comes close in terms of road feel, handling, resale, and all around build.

BUT I am looking at Roughly half this, I cannot bring myself to spend more than about $35k with a straight face. Once my monthly payments get much above $550 for something I use 3 miles a day? It just doesn't make ANY sense to me.

Hell that's a decent Pistol every month. OR a Killer Rifle every 4 months. Mostly spending more than $6K a year on a car makes my skin crawl. I like having a decent car, I like having a fun car, but I am not looking for anything more serious than maybe a 330 coupe or Mustang.

When I want serious speed and excitement I'll just hop on the bike. For a fun Toy and way to get to work, I'm pretty happy right around $550 a month. More than that is just a waste of money to me. If I was spending alot more time in the car then I might consider it but for now I want something fun... I keep thinking that a Big rumbly V-8 might just be the answer.

BlueHaya, That car is perfect in every way...

But one.

It's a GM Product...

And therefore icky. Yeah I said icky.

I love that Camaro, but honestly after driving two GTO's and some other exposure to GM Products? I'm Good to go. Accept for the Corvette GM has completely lost the plot and no longer remembers how to build a decent car.

I do love that Camaro though. Same with the Challanger though, when is it coming, how bad will the dealers gouge cause it's the new hotness, and will it be worth the wait? I dunno.

I do like the Mustang though, I was very impressed with it's feel and road manners. It may have just been because the one I drove this last time had 18inch wheels and tires and was lowered a bit, but it felt mutch tighter and much more composed than the GT I drove just 8 months ago.

It's still a ford, but it's also tinker toys. There is SO MUCH AFTERMARKET to choose from and is so reasonably priced that it just seems like the smart move for a fun car.

I do look forward to seeing the Camaro's on the road though.

Well, you did mention 'something else' in your title.

Personally, I'd go for one of the Crew-Cab Super Duty's that's in your second picture.

Slap a 6"+ lift on it and some 42" boggers for starters

(but that's just me

I've test driven the RX8's and I myself was disappointed in the lack of power. I was very surprised they did not have the "pickup and go I was expecting". I would sell it, get an Old truck. Maybe a 85 Chevy step side? Or a 76 ford? And put the extra money into a decent lift, wench, and tires and trainy....and actually have something to play around with off road

Not a bad idea, but I think I might get in trouble buying "Wenches"...

Wife might go for it, (some Eastern European Hottie maybe) but pretty sure that it's illegal.

I used to have a 96 Cobra. Great car. But even though I didnt drive it much, (3k a yr) it still needed alot of attention, otherwise it would slowly fall apart. Gave up on American cars (except for Saturn which always have excellent reviews). Im 39 yrs old and work hard for my money. I spend my money on Japs. If my budget allowed, would consider high ends German imports.

Revlis,

I've never met you, but you don't strike me as an RX-8 type of person. I see you being more of a Mustang person.

Save up and buy an S281 if you are set on Mustang... They stand out from the Stang crowd and look great doing so. Perform nicely also... Well you could get a base non-supercharged one Saleen also and since they have three valve motors now with 300Ponies or more you ought to be good for a while until the Modification urge kicks in.. But as all Mustang guys know you better keep a tight leash on your wallet when you get the urge to upgrade...

If you are interested in an Eastern European Hottie I could probably export one for you...

M3 - fantastic car. I love BMW though. I drive a 528i. (Not a fast car, gets great gas economy, super nice inside and out, and has great torque from the straight 6.)

That Saleen - wow!

The M3 and M5 both have 500hp. That's probably enough to haul you around and the M5 is bigger inside.

Yeah But If I was going to spend $45k on a Ford, it would be the GT500. Not a Saleen, I just do not like the looks of the latest generation saleens and for the money the GT500 would be the way to go I think.

Regardless though, I am Working hard to stay on budget. I simply do not want to spend more than about 30-35k on a car. I'm just NOT that much into cars ya know?

Right now I am leaning towards a Ford GT/CS and in a few months, adding a blower and doing a little suspension work.

As for the Eastern European hotties???

If my desire was stronger for a badass car, I'd go ahead and step up and get an M3. It's 333 horses and that should be plenty. 0-60 in 4.6sec...

The M5 and M6 both have 507 horses and by all accounts are just outer limits... The first $100K I feel like throwing at a car though... I might be all over the M6.

Mostly though, until I completely loose my mind, I'm keeping my auto purchase under $35k.

I kind of look at it as a watch. I can see buying a Rolex or a TAG. They make some seriously accurate reliable watches that can stand up to alot of abuse. So the outlay makes sense.

BUT

As soon as you make that an 18k Gold Rolex? Well now your just spending money to spend money. Maybe cause you are into watches, maybe cause your an idiot and want to try to impress someone. Whatever the reason, there is a point of diminshing return. A point where the extra money either isn't worth it to me the consumer, or no longer means increased performance or content.

This is kinda how car shopping works for me. I am looking for fun, but I also expect to be able to go on a decent road trip, take the clubs to the course, and take it to an occasional track day.

So once I find a selection of cars capable of performing this balancing act, and I start weighing pros/cons of my selection until I settle on a couple of contenders.

Now I am not saying that a Mustang is comparable to an M3... Uhh No. But what I am saying is that right now, the Mustang might scratch my itch better than the M3... I wanna play with my next car like we do the busas. I want to tweek I think.... And the Mustang is tinker Toys. Affordable, fun and easy to work on/get parts for.

Here's where I think the Mustang is scoring points.

- Inexpensive to own/insure.
- Huge affordable aftermarket.
- Fun with room for a couple of buddies and a set of golf clubs.
- Quick and capable with a big ole rumbly v-8 under the hood.
- Finally, I love the looks. Especially the CS with the 18's and the different front and rear end treatment.

Yes they started communism and the cold war to hide the real treasure... Women.. You saw them in the Heaven's Gates post.

I see your point. I am not familiar with the GT/CS but will google it since I have been out of the magazine subscription loop for some time now. I had all the Mustang mags for years.

Why not go for a nice little kit car Rev?  I mean, you only drive a couple of miles to and from work, some scenic route in the mountains...

Buy a donor car (a used Mustang, low miles, good suspension and the like) and go for a Factory 5 car (FACTORY 5)...I ordered the info packet for Mike; came in the mail yesterday...he (and I) are both drooling over the idea of building a replica Cobra (called the 65 Roadster by the company)...

Not too expensive, you get to build something
biggrin.gif
Of course with all that WA rain, you may want to invest in something with a hard top
smile.gif

The factory five looks like a fun car to build and should be really easy to do and upgrade since it is based on Fox Mustang underpinnings. Also they have a Shelby "Daytona?" Coupe Version that would be super neat to bring together.

I appreciate your faith in my mechanical prowess VA, But... Do you remember who I wanted to help me with Lilahs first Home oil change?

Yeah, building a kit car would cost me a fortune, and take a few months.

But it's not a bad idea again for a future second car. I really am after more of a GT/Sports Coupe I think. I gotta have room for golf clubs and some kind of backseat... He he, thats how I roll...

OH the "CS" is mearly an option in 2007. For like $1800 you get a different front and rear Bumper, 18" polished alloys, heated seats, and some tape stripes. Really thats about it.

Stock Mustang GT makes 300HP, The GT500 makes 500HP or close to it, and I have been reading that 400RWHP is pretty easy and affordable outta the GT's 3 valve 4.6 liter V-8.
