Should be a whole lot of fun... I'm giddy, and I have no idea how I'm going to be able to wait 90 days...

(frisbee @ Feb. 15 2007,13:42) I love the infinity but once you drive a BMW (" bimmer") you will feel the diff . Now how about that caddi, SLX is it ?
CTS-V 400HP V-8, 6 speed. Nice car.
Caddy gets panned in most all of the enthusiast mags when compared to the German cars. GM is much improved in recent years, but still lags behind the Germans.
Yeah that's the impression I got. I figure with the lease being where it's at, I may as well go ahead with the BMW. I'll see how I feel in three years. Might be that Caddy has done some catching up.

One thing that stood out about the caddy is I heard and read a lot about rear end failure. So I dunno... I've always been a Caddy fan though.
Rev; I'm 6/2" and 270, and had no problems with comfort with the 3 Series Bimmer we owned for several years with all due respect to something said earlier. Matter of fact, I found that "seat travel" was plenty generous. Enough so that at times I was perfectly comfortable without the seat all the way back, and I really tend to stretch out while driving. (leave no room for anyone in the back seat though!)

You're exactly right about Chrysler benefiting most from the Mercedes merger. The reality today..., the boys at Benz have grown weary of Chryslers huge losses, and they are trying to dump Chrysler right now.

Reminds me of an old axiom....., "what do you get when you combine a bucket of milk and a bucket of Sh-T. lol

Wow, just back tracked a click and saw your post Rev, congrats on the new Bimmer!!

Love that red-black interior, and silver has been a German car mainstay/classy color for decades, great choice!

No good advice on how to wait 90 days...., tough one. But perhaps some perspective on time...., a wise ole sage told me one time that "9 months is not a long time unless your pregnant"!! lol

Don't forget to post some pics when it arrives...

Oh You know me, I'll drive to some exotic location (My driveway or Garage Most likely) and abuse the hell outta my Digital camera for an hour or so... Then I might actually take a couple shot of the new whip.

Really though I am looking forward to taking pictures of it. I spend a good portion of time taking photos of bikes and such, so a good silver car ought to hold my attention for awhile. Lots of good places for pictures out here as well.

One thing I am bummed about though, I no longer have a car that is in Grand TourismoIII on the PSII... I've always been looking at cars that were a year or three old and most of them were in the game. So at least I could drive them in the game while I wait.

The interior of the New 335 is one place where I noticed a lagging in in BMW engineering or at least catering to Americas desire for buttons and widgets. It's a relatively spare interior when compared to the competition from Japan. Of course none of that mattered after I drove it, but it was something I noticed.

My brother has an 05' M3 convertible (his 2nd M3 conv.). Very nice and very fast. The shift paddle on the steering wheel is amazingly smooth and flawless. Having said that he has had enough of the sporty BMW models and is ready for more of a comfortable ride.

I've driven numerous BMW autos over the years (2003 models-present) and can tell you they are very rigid due to their sporting nature. BMWs are more sport than actual luxury, like say the interior of a Lexus sedan. The BMW interiors are on the smaller side, even the 7 series are not as roomy as I had expected.

Love BMWs, but you will sacrifice some comfort in the ride in the stiff sportier BMW models.

One thing I've noticed driving a bunch of Japanese, American and German Cars Back to back. German Horses are stronger. I drove a 300HP Mustang, a 306HP Lexus, and the 300HP BMW back to back. And the BMW just pulls harder, stronger, and longer than the American or Japanese cars. At least the Mustang and Lexus anyway. I've also noticed that with the CTS-V you have a 400 HP 6 speed sedan, weighing in at 3600 or so, and you have the 300hp BMW at about the same weight. You would expect the Caddy with it's extra 100HP (ALOT BTW) to really smoke the 335i but it's just not the case. they are right there Neck and neck... Makes no sense.

I've suspected that BMW underrates their HP figures for insurance/political reasons, I wonder if this might actually be the case...

Or are German Horses just stronger?

Rev-to answer your question about the Caddy's performance? it weighs closer to 4000lbs without driver, n the Bimmer is 3500 n change....so alot of that initial acceleration is the lower weight-but BMW also uses better gearboxes-CTS Vs need stronger-then-stock clutches to hold up to any 'spirited' shifting for any length of time-buddy works for a Caddy Dealer n he loved his '06 demo car, but when he was done???-that thing needed serious help in the tranny dept.

if you raced those cars head-2-head over a longer distance than a 1/4 mile, you'd see the Caddy pulling away...0-60 stuff n stoplite-to-stoplite the Bimmer will be right next to, if not in front of, any CTS tho...Id balk on a Caddy with that BMW available-the inside is JUST SO DAM SEXAY!!

I spent 3 years working as a Detailer for the largest BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Saab, Mazda and Volkswagen dealer in WI...and I can say this truthfully-Bimmers are SPORTY luxury cars, and MBs are LUXURY cars period-but they're VERY nice...when they work.
dont ask me about Saabs

weirdest cars ever...

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here. Maybe some of you guys that know Mercedes can help me out here. I've been considering buying an S 600, mostly because they have all the toys, and a V12. I can get one that,5 or 6 years ago was $140,000 for less that $40,000. What can you guys tell me about these cars, and engines?

Kevin

Impressive cars Bro no Doubt. Problem is that if something, ANYTHING breaks on your $40k car you are actually going to be replacing parts for a $140k car, make sense? It could be really expensive, besides, Mercedes really has been struggling with quality control over the last 5 or 6 years. Not so much in the Flagship S class, but it would still be a concern in a Mercedes with an Engine as complicated as the v12, that's out of Warranty.

I wouldn't... Maybe a 2004 CLK 500 or something like that, Certified Used. But nothing that isn't in Mercedes Certified Used plan.

+1 on the extended warranty through Mercedes, or BMW for that matter.

I think the cars are then covered to 100,000 miles. You'd essentially get your warranty money back the first time anything breaks.

I think the catchy is that the extended warranty is only available before the original mfg warranty expires.

Rented an S Class Turbo 330 in Germany last summer. An awesome autobahn cruiser. (mph in lower left)

OH and Kevin, Audi I think prolly has the most comprehensive Certified program out there right now. But yeah, any of them would make me feel a lot better about getting into a German car with German car parts prices.

Just so VAbusa doesn't have to dig!!! The one I ordered looks identical to this, accept my interior trim is going to be Dark Grey wood, not the aluminum.

It is going to be perfect Rev!!!! Just perfect...color me all shades of jealous; Mike too...we've both been saying for years what cars out there should have red interior, that the silver exterior with red would look amazing...they're harder to find than you realize...'course we're never looking to actually ORDER a car to our exact tastes; the used car route doesn't offer those options

Thanks M, Next time you're out this way I'll let you drive.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I wasn't quite sure and I almost chickened out but ya know, the black leather is so boring, I just wanted a little something entertaining. Something less stuffy than black or the standard light tan leather. It's supposed to be a sporty car, and I think the red helps set it off without being too over the top.

Oh and this is the wood that will actually be in the car, not the silver metal.

Giddy as a school girl... But 90 days is going to be rough...
